Bonnie, I hope this gets to you from your old post! I am looking for my ancestors Robert C. Goff and wife Eveline. I don't have dates on them but they gave birth to my great-grandfather Henry Lynn Goff (in November of 1873) wife named Sarepta Buchannan. Your Archibald Goff keeps coming up in my searches and I am wondering if I am supposed to ask you? If you have any info on this please contact me at jackwjames@aol.com, or forward this to anyone you believe might know something. I appreciate it! Jack

Re: Henry/ Robert C. Goff
Hey Jack, I have been out of circulation for quite awhile. I am the daughter of Joyce Sumpter daughter of Mamie Victoria Goff. We corresponded for awhile. Ever find out any info on Robert C and Eveline? I am still looking too. Cindy

Bonnie, This reply comes 4 years after your first posting and is intended for you, and anyone researching Archibald Goff. Rebecca Ann Goff, who at age 13 was listed with Archibald and Elizabeth in the 1860 Palestine, Cooper County, MO, U.S. Census, is my gg-grandmother. Presumably she is their daughter as she is listed with the other children and married my gg-grandfather Ignatius Thompson in Osage, Morgan County on June 21, 1863. Their marriage took place at Archibald's home. Archibald married Elizabeth Page on April 8, 1834 in Clark County, IL. On the 1835 IL State Census, Elisha Goff, Archibald Goff and John Goff are listed in Fayette County. The 1850 U.S. Census lists Archibald and Elizabeth in 8th Dist., Boone County, MO on page 171. An Elisha (age 60) and Margaret Goff (age 50) are also listed in 8th Dist., Boone County for 1850 on the next page, p.172. There is an Elisha and John Goff listed on the 1810 Pulaski County, Kentucky U.S. Census, both betwee 26-45 years of age. An 89 (or 87) year-old Elisha Goff and a 79 (or 77) year-old Margaret Goff were living in the Thomas Goff household in Osage, Morgan County on the 1860 U.S. Census. Elisha was born in Kentucky and Margaret was born in Tennessee. I believe Elisha and Margaret are the parents of Archibald. If anyone has any more information, please forward.
Thanks, Bryan Lewis

This is all the same stuff that I have found. Except the census record of 1850 Boone Co calls him Elijah. And also there is a marriage of Rebbeca Goff to James Lamme, Dec. 20, 1943 in Boone Co. and then in the 1850 Census of Boone Co. in (Elijah's) household is listed Rebecca Lamme(22) & James Lamme(29) and a Thomas Goff (26) There was also a Margaret (16) and wife, Margaret (50), Elijah was (60) I agree that this person could be the father of Archibald but cant prove it. This Rebecca in this household would have been born in 1828 so must have been the daughter of Elijah (Elisha) I also have an Archer Goff & Elisha Goff in Washington Co. MO in 1840 The Archer was 20-30, his wife was 20-30 and he had a son under 5 and a daug. under 5. I believe this was our Archibald. Elisha was 50-60, wife was 40-50, two daug. 10-15 and one male 15-20 and one male 20-30 I also have 18835 Ill State Census with heads: Aaron, Morgan Co.; Archibald, Fayette Co; Elisha, Fayette Co; John, Fayette Co and Lindsey, Morgan Co. I also found Aaron in the 1841-1842 US Land Records Springfield, MO as owning land there. Any more help appreciated. I think that Archibald married a Emily Russell June 1876 in Pettis Co. MO. After the 1880 Census I lose his trail, but believe he moved to McDonald Co.MO with Son William Henry & wife Matilda McCool and died here. There is a Henry Goff buried in the Pea Ridge, AR cem beside the mother of Matilda McCool, Tinny and they both are quite old ( only pieces of stone are left) Please e-mail if you want to trade info. Would like to know if Dudley Thompson's wife was Margaret ( Goff )) daughter of Archibald? This was on 1860 Census Cooper Co. MO. close by to Archibald's family. I would also like info on the Thompson's. Bonnie Goff

Bonnie,
Thanks for your prompt reply and I'm happy to meet a relative!
On the 1860 Census for Palestine, Cooper Co., MO p, 97 there is a Rebecca A. Goff, age 13, listed with Archibald and Elizabeth. I'm not sure if she is a daughter or other relative as she should have been listed on the 1850 census but wasn't. There are dicrepencies in the names of the other children as well.
The marriage license for Ignatius Thompson (sp. "Ignacious Thomson") and Rebecca Ann Goff lists James Lamme as a witness to the marriage whcich took place in the home of Archibald, Osage, Morgan Co, in 1863. This Rebecca would have been abt 16-17 yrs old while Ignatius would have been about 20. He is listed with William and Emily Thompson on the 1860, Palestine, Cooper Co. Census, p. 108, as 17.
Ignatius could also have been the son of Micajah Thompson who came to MO from KY and is listed in the 1840 Jackson, Johnson Co., MO Census p. 16 (lists 2 males under 5). The 1850 Census lists Micajah and wife Elizabeth (Micajah Thompson m. Elizabeth Mefford on 20 Nov 1832 in Pike Co. MO) as living in Dis.7, Dubuque Co., IA with an Ignatius C. Thompson, age 14. There would be an age discrepency of 7 years with the 1860 Cooper Co. listing so they may or may not be the same person (how many Ignatius Thompsons could there be for this region?).
I am descended from Ignatius and Rebecca through their son Robert E. Thompson born abt. 1874 in Warsaw, Benton co, MO. I began this search in order to find our Native American roots as my grandfather told us Robert was 1/2 Indian. His mother Esther was also part Indian. My grandfather and his brothers and sisters look very Indian, I look a little. I have pictures of Robert Thompson that I can copy and send if you like. Robert's first marriage was to Katie Maude Schreck and he had several children with her. Robert had a second marriage to my g-grandmother, Esther Stevenson, and had four more children. His son Myron Francis Thompson was my grandfather. Myton's daughter Virginia was my mother. I will send you all the info I have on the Thomspon's but this will take a couple of weeks or so to put together. The Goffs and the Thompsons did a lot of intermarriage. Other names in the family are McCool, Watts, Carter, Etc. Another person you may want to cantact is William Watts who is listed through this message board. He is also descended from Robert Thompson through his first marriage. Sorry, I don't have his e-mail address handy but will look it up and supply it privately.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Bryan

I am great grandaughter of Jake Goff, son of Arch Goff, son of Archibald Goff. I have been reading your threads from 2004 and just wondered if you been able to further your research any, as far as finding out who Archibald's father was. I too have been looking at information that references Elijah or Elisha as Archibald's father. I am at a stand still, its like the Goffs fell of the face of the Earth once I reached Elisha and Mary Tuggle. It was also said to me by my grandmother that we had Cherokee roots, but I have so far found no indication that this information is valid.

I believe the father to be Elijah who was on the 1840 Census with him & then disapears. I think it may have been writen as Elisha sometimes, but the Elisha from Winchester,KY who lived and died there is NOT Archibald Henrys father. I have a picture of Archie J & Sarah McCool wife if you would like a copy email me directly. horseyjane@yahoo.com Lets put our heads together maybe we can figure it out. Bonnie

Oh!! That would be wonderful..If you happened to have pictures of any of my great grandfather or his brothers and sisters or other Goff Kin that would be so nice, also. His name is Jake. My email address is Haj12_2000@yahoo.com..If I could scan the picture I have one of Jake and his wife Emily Donnell. They had a total of 13 children, but my grandmother Geraldine Goff was the only one that survived past the age of 1 year old.
