Archibald Henry Goff was born in KY in 1800-1810. Many of us think his father was Elijah Goff but we still dont know for sure which link to follow. I believe Elijah was the son of John Goff, SR of Bedford, VA. Any clues or corrections are apreciated.

Hi Bonita and haj,
I've been off line for awhile due to illness and other factors. Have either of you found any more info on Archibald GOFF, Elizabeth PAGE and descendants? I've traced Elisha GOFF and Margaret TUGGLE (GOFF) back to Goochland County, VA. Most of my ancestors reputed to be Indian I've also traced back to Goochland County, VA, and other locations in Virginia. Goochland Co. is located in the historical homeland of the Monocan Indian Nation, also known as part of the Saponi Confederacy (enter "Searching for Saponi Town" website in your browser to go to their website for information). Our ancestors probably included mixed-blood remnants of the Saponi and possibly the Powhattan Nations who migrated west together from the 1700's through the 1800's. There may have been intermarriage with Cherokee groups on the way. Some Melungeon communities are also descended from these mixed-blood groups.
I have several photographs posted on my family tree now and have just opened it as a public tree if you would like to view it (Lewis, Kelly, Thompson, Wolfe Family Tree) You can go to "Robert Eugene Thompson" (my g-grandfather) to see his pictures. He is the son of Rebecca Ann GOFF and Ignatius Thompson, born in Warsaw, MO in 1874. My grandfather told us he was half Indian through his mother, Rebecca GOFF. There is a picture of my g-grandmother Esther STEVENSON, who is also mixed-blood Indian. Bothe of their families are dexcended through the NASH/MOSLEY families of Goochland County, VA.
By the way, Archibald GOFF Jr. and Sarah McCOOL named one of their daughters "Becky Ann" and one of their sons "Ignatius" after my g-g-grandparents.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Bryan

Are you saying that Archibald Henry Goff is the son of Elisha Goff & Margaret Tuggle? The only connection I could find is the 1840 MO Census showing them close together. And both of them listed in the IL. State Census of 1835 in Fayette CO. Also a John is listed on the same page 003 with Archibald (the oldest son, John?} And Elisha on page 011 in Fayette Co. There was also an Aaron and Lindsy in Morgan co. on page 114. If you recall Archibald Henry and Eliz. Page were married in Clark Co. IL in 1834. It said that Archibald was over 21 yrs of age and Elizabeth by consent of her step-mother (no name & I assume she was under 18 yrs) Most census records record his birth in KY in 1810. I think I researched Elisha & Margaret Tuggle and ruled them out but I cant find all my notes right now. But the Elijah, age 60 on the 1850 census in Boone Co. MO was also married to a Margaret, age 50 who could have been his father and they had a daughter who married James Lamme (Rebecca) Archibald Henry and his family are listed close by and he was 40 and Eliz. was 37 so Elisha could have been the father but I have yet to prove it by records yet. Let me know if you have proof otherwise. Bonnie Goff

Elisha GOFF and Margaret or "Peggy" TUGGLE were married in Pulaski County, Kentucky in 1806 ("Peggy" is the diminutive form of Margaret). I believe I got their marriage record from "One World Tree." This is where an Elisha GOFF is later listed in 1810 and 1820 Censuses (I believe an Archibald GOFF was also listed close by, could have been an older relative of Elishas'). I have no proof that Elisha was Archibald's father, only circumstantial evidence that he was a close family member if they migrated together to Missouri via Illinois. On some censuses Margaret is listed as being born in Tennessee or Kentucky, Archibald is listed as being born in Kentucky in abt. 1810. "One world tree" lists an Elisha GOFF and Peggy TUGGLE as being born in Goochland County, VA. There could be some confusion between generations. The TUGGLE surname also appears frequently on the Missouri Censuses living close to the Goffs in the 1800's. A Henry TUGGLE and Mary NASH, of Goochland County, VA are listed in One World Tree as being the parents of "Peggy Tuggle." My g-grandmother's line (also Indian) is descendfed from Mary NASH's brother John.

You could be right,I thought that might br the case but have never been able to prove it. There then would be another question? Who was Elisha's father. The plot thickens. The original Goff's of Bedford, VA John Jr. will had a son named, Archibald too. Bonnie

Seeing that this is an old post I hope it is Viewed by someone who might find it relevant.I am a direct line from Elisha Goff. I took the ancestry.com autosomal dna test. I have several connections to the Tuggle and Nash line. This is Elisha Goffs wife and mother-in-law. I also have several connections to the Archibald Goff line. Elisha Goff is my 4th grandfather. My 3rd grandfather is Thomas Goff who I believe is Archibald s brother. My tree is public on ancestry.com. I would still like to find a direct line Archibald Goff male who has taken a Y chromosome test. Bill Goff
