I am also researching the name Godber. My g.g.grandfather was called Asa Godber and was born about 1821, his father was James Godber. Asa married Emma Kirk on 12 May 1846 in Ilkeston Derbyshire. Their daughter Ann Selina Godber (born 21 August1848 in Ilkeston) married Edward Mycock (born 23 Dec 1848 in Priestcliffe Ditch, Derby)on12 July 1868 in Fairfield Derby. Is there any connection with your Godbers. If so have you any info on Emma Kirk or James Godber? Did Ann Selina have any siblings?

No help with your Godbers, but I am interested in your Hemingray.

In my quest to trace all Hemingways, I have in more recent times picked up references to Hemingrays in case they are a valid variant. I am aware that there were several Hemingway families that moved to Derbyshire from Yorkshire and wondered if their name changed in the process. Are you aware of the origin of Hemingray (Hemmingray etc). They seem to be centred in Derbyshire with a small outpost in Nottinghamshire.

Did you make progress with your Annie Hemingray?

I am always on the look-out for Hemingways and variants from Yorkshire and elsewhere. If you are tracing a Hemingway line, do please let me know. I may be able to help you and you might be able to fill in a few more names on the Hemingway tree. For those interested, I now have 69 variants listed.

My Grandmother was Frances Maude Hemingway. I know that she and my Grandfather John George Wheadon lived in Yorkshire. My father was born in Leeds - or grew up around there.

Can you help?

.
Jacqueline,

Could your grandmother have been born in 1890 in south Leeds?

Sorry to have taken so long to respond - I have been away. Have you seen my website? It's at www.hemingway.uk.com

Thanks for your reply - she could be the one, it would fit in with where she came from. I will check with my sister tonight to see if we have any details - but Leeds was where Dad was born......

My grandfather was Tom Hemingway. He was born into slavery in 1862. His folks were from Alabama. My father and his siblings were all born in Greenwood, MS, to Tom and Alice. Does anyone have any records of slaves of Hemingways?

Maurice, I'm looking for Hemingways of Bradford, York. My grandmother Margaret Ann Hemingway was the daughter of Abraham Hemingway and Jane Atkinson. Abraham was born in1851. Margaret married Hustler Thomas. They came to canada early 1900's. I have no futher info. Does this tie in with your Hemingways?

Jane,

Rather than me start off by trying to help you look for Abraham which is a frequently occuring Hemingway forename (with all the potential to get the wrong one), do you know where Margaret was born and when?
