http://www.vindy.com/news/tributes/2010/sep/10/rufus-william...YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – Funeral services will be at noon on Monday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home for Rufus Williams, 72, who departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Williams was born March 24, 1938, in Savannah, Georgia, a son of Alvin Godbee and Florence Bass.
He worked for US Steel, and played baseball with the Soul Gents team. He loved the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He was a graduate of East High and an Army veteran.
He leaves his wife, the former Wilma Williams; a daughter, Sheila Williams of Youngstown, Ohio; brothers Levi Godbee of Hephzibah, Ga. and George Godbee of Waynesboro, Ga.; sisters, Lula Bell of Virginia, Lula Mae Daughtry of Midville, Ga.; Susann Perez of Waynesboro, Cora Lamkin of Hephzibah; an uncle, James Godbee of Columbia, South Carolina; a goddaughter, Yvonne Williams of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Laresa Scott and Sherry Williams-Coleman; his sisters, Annie Ruth Godbee Evans, Lily Thomas and Ruth Grant; and his grandmother, Emma Williams.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
