Thanks Linda; not too much information! We need to explore every angle to find the answer to our Search of Needham. I too believe that Needham, James (of 1797), and maybe Willis (but not sure about him yet) were related; but how and who was the father. I have spend much time in Waynesboro at both the Library and the Jail; I just cannot get to a point that leads me to think Nancy was a Godbee. I am not saying she isn't, but for sure can't say she was!! I do not like to speculate, I am a facts kinda guy, but I believe Needham "took in" Robert Heathcock after the death (!!??!!) of his father. I mean, there he was in the 1830 census and then in 1840 Rebecca was head of house. There were hard living and hard times during that time. After working with the Marlboro Tax Assessor, I know where Needham and family lived in 1850 and probably '30 and '40 as well.
I agree, Cameron went to Burke County because he had ties. I can not imagine anybody in 1845 picking up and traveling from Marlboro County to Burke County just because it seemed the right thing to do!! In 1845 that was a long trip. I am sure he travel with a group or family, going to a place where he knew people or his family knew people. The answer to this puzzle will probably never be answered; but that does not mean we want continue to search.

Oh well, we will continue to research, Thanks again and stay in touch,

Butch

Yeah, I have Atlas in Robson County, NC in 1880; the last census that I can find him on! Some ( I can provide details if you are interest) of Atlas's children are buried in the Cilo, SC area.

Chuckle, in spite of lots of speculations, I agree, they need proving. Sigh.. so hard to do. That's also what I thought after seeing Rebecca on the earlier census.
I'm thinking about heading up to Needham land soon.
Did you know about the Quick Turner reunion that happens every year in Griffin? Most of these Quicks are direct line of Nathan. Their research indicated Nathan was son of Willis. I'm willing to bet that you saw or made contact over the years with Sue Horn (now deceased). She was part of this group. Noticed that my DNA cousins include the name Horn with one as a more distant cousin to me. Haven't found the thread yet. Some Turners as well do show up as distant cousins.
Righto. That Richmond, NC 1820 census included Needham, James, John, and Willis.
There was a James Atlas Quick, from NC, who went to Ark. The Quick lines currently up there (Ark) don't mention anything about James Atlas but they indicate direct lines with Nathan and Willis.
Understand, not my research.....All I found on Willis was what looked liked renting or sharecropping on what I believe was his uncle's land. I looked at the originals in the courthouse. I think someone has since placed those images on Ancestry.com. And. a friend found some information linking Willis and Needham earlier than 1820 in Richmond, NC. Then later Willis's (if same) land deeds in Ala. and a daughter to him by the name of Nancy but not ours. And, of course.
Do you have any idea how Needham came by his lands? And, do you have the exact location of the properties? I had info which led me out past Stanton's Barb-B-Que and not far from a Quick graveyard (grandson of A. Quillar Aquillar, Aquiller buried there).
Direct line to timojean@hotmail.com.
