Godbee
John Henderson Godbee and Susan Bennefield were married on 14 Feb 1884 in Douglas County, GA.
It is interesting to note that many members of the Godbee/Godbee family made it through Douglas County. Even Dr Henry Godbee lived there for awhile. It is even more interesting that several members of the family Dr Henry, William T., Robert Thomas and others were spelling the name Godsbey or Godsby for awhile.
I am a descendant of William Talley Godbee, son of Stephen Godbee and Jincy West. Growing up I never heard the story of the feud but when I started working on my genealogy an aunt told me about a feud that had taken place. Apparently the family changed the story quite a bit because they claimed that it was between two brothers who originally came to America in the early to mid 1800's.
A cousin of mine had found the Godbee cemetery years ago but was told by our uncle Alton that they were no relation. I am wondering if maybe the feud had something to do with Albert's estate. I have located the estate and plan to get the records. I'd like to see if William and John recieved their father's share since Albert died intestate.

Do you have a record of John & Susan's marriage? I copied out of their family Bible the info I have. It said Carrolton, Georgia, but I realize that information could be wrong.
I know that generations back the neighbors sometimes pronounced our name "Godsbey" although my grandfather always said "Godbee".
I can't find Stephan after 1858. According to courthouse records he sold all his property to Dr. Henry & Albert in 1858. Then, Jincy is listed as head of household in 1860. I know Stephen was buried in the family cemetary in the winter of 1866. But where was he between 1858 & 1866? Do you have any info on that?
Did you learn anything from Albert's estate records?

I found John's marriage license in Douglas County. It was kind of wierd that I also found Robert Thomas Godbee's Marriage license there also. Neither he nor his wife were from there. As far as Stephen goes, I think that he may have been in Alabama. A Stephen Godbee had a land patent in AL in the late 1850's and as far as I can tell, he would have been the only candidate. I believe that he joined up with the Confederacy during the war with an outfit from GA. I have 2 records for a Stephen Godbee during the war but neither record set has alot of info.
Albert's estate records didn't say what happened to Stephen but did stipulate as to the relationship of W.T. and J.H. Godbee to their father. It even used the spelling that W.T. was using at the time.
I am working on getting Albert's Southern Claims Commission records. I have Henry B.'s but Alberts were never put on microfilm.

Might want to try Burke County (Girard) records. Believe he is buried there along with so many other Godbees.

My Godbee's are from Burke County but left between 1837 & 1840 to Henry County then changed to Fayette County then Campbell County now Fulton County. Stephen is buried in Godbee Godby Cemetery in Fulton County, GA. in unmarked grave.
