My father was Lawrence Donald Goda, born September 1926, whose family was from Sloatsburg.
|
My Father Elvin Goda is the brother of Lawrence Donald Goda, which makes us first cousins. Could you give me more information on your family? I am developing o family tree for my children.

Nice to meet you, Cousin! Where shall I begin? I don't know how much info you have. We were an Air Force family so were not close to many members, and since my father's death, have lost track of everyone. My Dad died March 7, 1977. William Goda died here in Las Vegas a few years after that. Their brother Mike was living in Phoenix, last I heard. I have one full sister, Donna Rae Goda, who now lives in Orlando. My Dad has another daughter by his second wife, Janet Kaye Goda, who was born in 1969. Uncle Bill had a daughter, Melody, and a son, Eddie. Suffice it to say, we put the "fun" back in dysfunctional, so I don't have much info. Nice to know I still have family out there. I was only in New York once, and that was as an infant, so if I met your father, I have no memory of it. I was born in 1952. I do remember getting pictures of Rita's family, which included a cousin Linda, if my memory serves me. I don't know whatever happened to Granny. I tried to contact her when Uncle Bill died to no avail.

Dear Lauri, Hi Lauri! This is John's Wife. He has asked me to get back intouch with you. He's had to work alot of overtime lately and hasn;t been able to sit down and write you. In your last letter you asked what happened to your Grandmother. I believe she passed away after having Alzheimers for a long period of time. It's good to hear from you and I must say the line putting the fun in disfucntional is a great line! We are still working on that!LOL To let you know a little about our family, John and I have been married for 28 years now. We have 2 children Kimberly( who's going to be a Mom any day now!) 19 years old and Joshua ( wants to be a N.B.A. star some day) 15 years old. Our first son Johnboy passed away after contracting Reyes Syndrome. He was 7 years old. We live in Cold upstate N.Y. We have a farmhouse,4 dogs and 5 cats. All strays our daughter brought home! I must say your cousin John is still a very handsome fellow! We are Foster parents and have a new addition to the family. Her name is Chelsey and she's 5 years old. What a switch from 19 and 15! We know how old were getting now! John's father Elvin thinks this (being intouch with you) is Great and says to tell you hello. Well have to go. hope to hear from you soon. John,Deb,Kids,Dogs Cats

Dear Deb: How nice to hear from you! Please feel free to e-mail me directly at LMOakden@aol.com, so our messages aren't posted for all the world to see. Sounds like you have a lovely family, and John is a lucky guy! Thanks for the news about my grandmother. And do please tell Uncle Elvin "hello" for me. You have a handful with a new little one around the house! Although unable to have any kiddles of my own, I do adore children, and worked in Pediatrics for a number of years. Your farmhouse and menagerie sound delightful. I am down to three cats, all foundlings. The dogs have gone to doggie heaven. It was lovely to hear from you. Please keep me posted on how John is doing on the family tree. I have no doubt he is a handsome devil - it's those Goda genes. :) Best regards, Lauri

Hi Linda, I am researching the Goda Family of Slovakia. I have been told that we have relatives who settled in the Youngstown, Ohio area. My dad and grandmother immigrated to Akron, Ohio in 1938. Do you have a connection with Slovakia?

Goda Family from Slovokia
Yes, my goda family originated in Slovokia. Here is what I know so far:
John Goda, b. July 24, 1860 (death certificate says Austria) my father-in-law says that John was born in Slovokia which was part of Austria. Death certificate list John's father as John Goda, b. and d. Austria. John married Mary Popovich who was b. Aug. 30, 1869 in Austria. John died Feb. 8, 1925 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. John and Mary had the following children:
1. John Goda, b. 1892, d. 1951, m. Grace Carver 2. Mary Goda, b. 1895, d. 1931, m. Alexander Hamilton. 3. Michael Goda, b. 1898 in IN, d. 1947 in IN, m. Mary Mehoke. 4. Anna Goda, b. 1900, d. 1974, m. Mount Willis, Bill Butler 5. George Goda, b. 1901, d. 1965, m. Grace Bryant 6. Joseph Goda, b. 1901, d. 1987, m. Eva Sturm 7. Elizabeth Goda, b. 1905, d. 1973, m. Edward Meeker 8. Charles Goda, b. 1907, d. 1980, m. Margaret Hillis 9. Thomas Goda, b. 1909, d. 1993, m. Meridith Johnson
Does any of this sound familiar.

Hi Linda, Thanks for your reply. My Goda ancestor, Maria had a brother John who was born in 1889. Their father was also John, born in 1851. They lived in Secovska Polianka, Zemplin, Slovakia. As far as I know, Maria and her brothers John and Joseph were the only ones who immigrated to the U.S. Maybe we have a connection but it's not clear to me at this time. I'll keep checking my data.
