Hi, Chuck,
Thanks for the information. My Gauthier ancestors were mostly farmers. Thomas and his son Henry had some sort of maple syrup operation in NH. His sons who stayed in OswegoCounty, John, my ancestor, and Theodode were farmers after they returned from the Civil War. They lived in and around Mexico, NY all of their lives. John is buried in Mexico Cemetery, and Theodore in Maple View.
Thomas had three other children in Oswego Co., Edward, Mathilda and Hemile, in the 1855 census. Mathilda and Henry went to NH with Thomas. I've been
unable to determine what happened to Edward and Hemile.
You can see the whole family tree on rootsweb (and ancestry) here:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=swales_z...Actually... I just noticed Edward and Hemile are not mentioned on the rootsweb
site... I'll have to figure that out. Edward was born about 1851, and Hemile around April 1854.
