A correction to my last posting:
Margaret's age should have been listed as 24

Also found this in 1860 Census

1860 Mass Berkshire Lanesburo
page30
227 240 listed with William Lacant and family

David Gochie 21 M Glass Fac Laborur Canada

also just listed just above David was -
Margaret Archan (or Archen) 14 F Mass

I believe this is David's future wife - does anyone
have any additional information on her? I believe
she remarried after David died and changed her name
to Margaret Marion.

I'm not sure if there is a connection, but my grandfather was David Gochie (an unusual and dificult name to find) He was born about 1890 and Married Annie May Westlake in Trenton Ontario in 1918 he was a private in the army at the time.
His father was Charles Gochie and his mother was Pauline Barker. The Newspaper announcement said that he was from Brockville Ontario. I found references to Charles Gochie dated 1823 fron Nova Scotia. but I'm hitting Brick walls a lot.

Sorry - my David Gouchie (originally Gauthier) was born in
Quebec abt 1841and died October 1894 - he migrated
to Berkshire County , Mass and then to Clevleand ,
Oswego County, New York. He worked in the glass
making industry. He married Margret Arguand in Mass.
One of their sons was David Jr born February 28, 1871
in Mass. My grandfather Edward Gouchie was the
youngest son and the only one born in New York State.

I have Gauthier/Gochee/Gothier relatives from Quebec who settled in Oswego County. David is not a name that is familiar, though. Maybe we need to compare notes.

My GGG grandfather was John (Jean Baptiste Gauthier-Larouche) Gothier and he had a brother Theodore, and several other brothers and sisters. His father was Thomas Gauthier-Larouche. They came to Oswego Co.from Quebec in the 1840's, and after John's mother died, Thomas left with a bunch fo the younger children, and later resurfaced in Hew Hampshire with a new wife.

Steve,
Interesting point about your side living in Oswego County
for awhile. Do you know where. Also one of David's
sons was named John Baptiste also. Do you know what
type of work they did? Here is a brief run down of David
Gouchie (aka Gauthier - Gochie , Goochie) family.

Hi, Chuck,

Thanks for the information. My Gauthier ancestors were mostly farmers. Thomas and his son Henry had some sort of maple syrup operation in NH. His sons who stayed in OswegoCounty, John, my ancestor, and Theodode were farmers after they returned from the Civil War. They lived in and around Mexico, NY all of their lives. John is buried in Mexico Cemetery, and Theodore in Maple View.

Thomas had three other children in Oswego Co., Edward, Mathilda and Hemile, in the 1855 census. Mathilda and Henry went to NH with Thomas. I've been
unable to determine what happened to Edward and Hemile.

You can see the whole family tree on rootsweb (and ancestry) here:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=swales_z...

Actually... I just noticed Edward and Hemile are not mentioned on the rootsweb
site... I'll have to figure that out. Edward was born about 1851, and Hemile around April 1854.

Just wondering if anyone made the connection between John The Baptist Gouchie's wife Mary Daisy Souders and Louisa Gouchie's husband Louis Souders. They were brother and sister.

The Souders are my direct ancestors, and I was surprised to learn they had apparently married a brother and sister. My 96 year old mother was surprised--and they were her Aunt and Uncle.

I am trying to tract the Souders line, and have been looking to the Gouchie line for further info.

Thanks for your help.

I recently came acrosss various Federal Census entries on
the Souders connected to the Gouchie's. Can share if you
like. My grandfather was Edward Gouchie brother of
John The Babtist Gouchie. Grandpa was born in Cleveland
Oswego County New York and was the the only member
of his family born there , the rest were born in Mass where
there father David worked in a glass factory around
the Lanesburo area. Have 1850, 1860 and 1870 and
1920 (this one reflects the Mckay connection) entries.
Let me know what we can share.

Great. I am only beginning to research this line.

My Mother was born Margaret McKay, a daughter of Jennie Souders McKay and James McKay of Baltimore, MD.

Jennie died in 1917 of pnemonia, and was a sister to Mary Daisy Souders Gouchie. (who married John the Baptist) She was also a sister to Louis Souders who married Louisa Gouchie. Their parents were Louis and Anna Tierney Souders.

Jennie was born in Bernards Bay, Otsego County, NY. Daisy was apparently the oldest and born in Massachusetts. From the census records I found, Louis was born in NY state. They had a brother Reeves, too, who also was born in NY state. They had another sister, Eva, who died young, but I have not located any information on her.

The Souders men were all involved in glass blowing. Perhaps that is why they were in Massachusetts when Daisy was born. There was a glass company in Cleveland, NY, where I know Reeves, and both Louis' were working around 1900. I got that on the internet from an old company listing.

I found records for 1920 and 1930, but I did not find anything prior to that. In 1920 Louis and Anna had their 5 grandchildren living with them in Oneida, NY. By 1930 they were down to only 3 living with Anna. Louis had died, and one son moved to Pittsburgh PA, the other was married.

I would be happy with any other information you have.
