Hello Joe: You replied to my daughter Laura's query in 2002, and I have just picked it up. My name is Derek Patrick Gobbett (aka Paddy), I am the third son of William Joseph Gobbett and Mabel Elizabeth (nee McDonald). Dad served in India and Clive, Billy and I were all born there. I was born in Rawalpindi, we returned to Ireland in 1948. Would be interested in hearing from you.

Hi Paddy, i came across this message as i am currently trying to trace my father's great grandfather. My dad, Edward Gobbett is your first cousin and you may remember when you, your brother's Clive and William, dad William and mother Mabel came home from India, you stayed with them in Ballinteer (Ireland) for a few months, before you went to live in Blessington, where you father had a cinema. Frank (your father's brother) and his wife Judy had four children. My father Edward, Willie, Mary & Joe.
I am the youngest of six children. Christina, Bryan, John, James, Edward and Julia (myself). Judy (Julia) my grandmother died last year in her hundreth year!

I have information that Edward Gobbett (also your Grandfather) was born in Southall London in 1872. He was born to a William and Elizabeth Gobbett. He also married an Elizabeth (McDonald) in 1893 in Clondalkin Church, Dublin. We are currently trying to find the link between Edward and his father William in England by means of a birth certificate. If you have any information that might be of help, it would be appreciated. Also, it would be nice hear about yourself and your family. We have kept in touch with Clive who recently moved from South Africa to America and it is some years since we have seen William from Blessington. If you would like to contact me by email you can at julia.gobbett@gmail.com

Hello Séan & Julia

I have yet to hear from Dolores or Christina but if you are still tracing your lineage you may be interested in the details I posted last week under their "Daniel Gobbett & Elizabeth Clarke..." thread. I believe your ancestor Edward Gobbett was baptized in 1872 as William Edward, the son of William and Emily Gobbett of Marylebone, London, who both died when he was a young boy.

Do you have any more information about Edward's origins?

David Gobbitt
