I heard a rather bizzare story regarding my garndfather John Goane and his brother Daniel Goan had an argument and John added the 'e' to break ties, after all was said the e was left, but the brothers reunited and are buried next to each other in the same cemetary plot in Enniskillen and share the same headstone, some names with e some without, saw it with my own eyes

John, Martin and Edward all had the 'e' on Goane only brother Daniel didn't. I think it was a spelling error on his birth certificate as neither of my father's, John, parents could write. Betsie I would be delighted to hear from you please contact me, your uncle Martin, known to your father Charlie as Lou. Your Uncle Vincent's son, Vincent, is also into geneology and I am sure you two could assist each other.

I can only trace the GOANE name back to Mt. Sterling IL. in the early 1900's. Any suggestions?
That branch of Goanes later settled in Peoria IL. and then to Milwaukee Wi.
