Would like to e-mail or phone "Irma" that posted back in 2000 on Thomas Jefferson Goad. I believe his wife, Martha Anna "Mattie" COWSERT, was my maternal great grandmother. I know that their daughter is Addie Goad (Adelie Lee Goad), who was born 20 Dec 1882 in MS. and died Feb 1961 in Memphis, TN. She was the half sister of my grandfather, John Leland Hardy, Sr. of Water Valley, MS. Addie wrote to my mother, right before she died. I have the letter, which she wrote in pencil. Addie was known as "Aunt Dixie" to family members, and often signed her name as "Dixie". My GGM, Martha "Anna" remarried to John Andrew Hardy, my great grandfather. Their names are on a delayed birth certificate for my grandfather. Adelie Lee Chandler was a witness for the information on this birth certificate. Addie's mother's name is listed as "Anna Goud", but looking at a Chandler Family Tree, Addie (Adelie) last name is "Goad". I looked at the census with Addie, and the name looks clear enough to me as "GOAD". The "A" was misread as a "U" and recorded on J. L. Hardy, Sr. birth certificate. I need verification that Martha A (probably Anna) Goad, married John Andrew Hardy after her marriage to Thomas Jefferson Goad. After John Andrew Hardy passed, Martha (aka: Mattie) A. shows up on another census, being the wife of Walter Tate, and my grandfather was around age 25, back living with his mother and Walter, after divorcing his 1st wife, Emily Moore. At this census, they were in Tate Co., MS. I know Walter was a merchant and ran a general store. My mother and other family members, referred to Walter Tate as "Dad Tate". They didn't know Martha (Goad/Hardy/Tate), but perhaps did meet or see her at some point, and didn't know who she was. My grandfather, John Leland Hardy, Sr., mentioned to my mother years ago, that he found his mother living in Texas somewhere, so I'm assuming she may have died and perhaps buried there. She may have remarried a 4th time there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is ancestor is a hang-up in confirming info in my family tree. I went through Ancestry to get Martha A. Goad's and John Andrew Hardy's marriage certificate, Yalobusha Co., but nothing was found. Perhaps they were married in Tate Co., or another county in MS. John L. Hardy, Sr. married Ida Mae O'Daniel around early 1920s, since their daughter, my mother, Leora Mae, was born in 1925.
If anyone has any information on Martha "Mattie" Anna Cowsert, re: her death/burial (possibly in TX.), please contact me here.
