I am looking for relatives of Elmer Goad born in Mo. He married Fanny Burch. He had a brother in St. Louis name unknown. His father may have been named John Elmer Goad

My grandfather was also named Elmer Goad. His middle name was Ellis. He was born in Illinois on July 26, 1909 and died in Decatur, Illinois on Oct. 30, 1994. His father's name was Alonzo Goad and his mother was Margaret Ellis Goad. I've been unable to determine who my great-grandfather was. My grandfather says his name was John Goad. He was either born in Tennessee or Greene County, Indiana. Maybe there is a slight relationship(I'M reaching). Please contact me if you have any information. Thanks!

In 1900, Alonzo Goad was living in Franklin County, lllinois, Denning Township. He was apparently a single man, born Sept 1881 in Indiana of Indiana-born parents. He was working as a farm laborer for Thomas A. Wade. Being born in 1881, he was not on the 1880 census and there is no 1890 census. Three John Goads lived in ca 1880 Greene County, Indiana but, for various reasons, none fit for the father of Alonzo. That is all I know. -- Ken Haas

Linda Goad, Thanks for your message. How many people have the name Alonzo? My dad's name was Thomas Alonzo Goad. We were always teasing him. You may be able to fill in my missing link. My cousin and I have been trying to find Alonzo Goad's parents. My grandfather was Elmer Ellis Goad. He says his parent's were Alonzo and Margaret Ellis Goad. He never knew his grandfather, but his father told him his name was John Goad. I don't know where John, Alonzo, or Elmer were born. My grandfather says he can remember visiting Bloomfield, Indiana as a child. There is a Goad branch in Bloomfield, but I haven't been able to locate any info about Alonzo. There are some John Goads listed on censuses and in the graveyard at Bloomfield, but I can't make any 100% connections. Help!

Ken, Thanks for your reply. Your John Goad sounds like a strong possibilty. The birthdate you gave for John matches the family information I was given. But, my grandfather specifically remembers coming to Bloomfield, Indiana to visit relatives. I live 9 miles from Bloomfield and have researched this situation. I can't find any absolute connections between John and Alonzo. This is getting extremely frustrating.

Linda, Sorry, but your John Goad and mine are not the same. It's amazing the similarities in the names. If I find out any information on your John, Elmer, and Alonzo, I'll send you a message through FamilyHistory.com. I'd appreciate it if you would do the same. Good Luck P.S.-Have you tried the Goad Forum on Rootsweb?

Thanks! The only info I have has been supplied by my grandfather(Elmer Ellis Goad)who is now deceased. His father was Alonzo Goad born Sept. 9, 1892 and his mother was Margaret Ellis Goad born Aug. 24, 1894. My grandfather never his grandfather but remembered his name was John. That's it. Thanks again
