My grandfatherwas a Goad. I think his father's name was Marshall and his mother was Elizabeth Sexton. There appears to be a lot of info out there that goes way back but I can't seem to find a connection to what I know... I'm not sure where my grandfather was born but he spent most of his life in Scott Co. TN and I'm sure there are still relatives there on his side but Idon't know any of them. If the name Leabert Goad rings any bells with anyone please let me know.... Thanks!

Shanda : I have a Marshall Goad born in Scott County, Tenn. in Dec.1877. Does that sound right ?? His wife was Elizabeth She was born in 1879 and died in 1959 and is buried with Marshall in the SEXTON cemetery near Slick Rock, Brimstone, Scott County, Tenn. This has to be your people. His parents were Joshua, Jr. and Elizabeth Goad, Joshua (1824-1910). Marshall died in 1934. What were his childrens' names as there are more burials in this cemetery of younger Goads ???. I have lots more data on them. Even wrote a book on the Goads. Joshua, Jr. goes back to Joshua,Sr., Abraham, John, Abraham, the latter the ancestor of 95% of the thousands of Goad descendants in this country. -- Ken Haas

This sounds about right....I really don't know much at all about my grandfather's family. My mom wasn't very close to them and I haven't lived in Scott Co. since I was about a month old. I've been back some to visit but the only time I was ever around any of his family was for his funeral. I'm sorry to say that I don't even know their names or who is even living still. I'd LOVE to hear more from you about what you have. I haven't really known where to start. I'm not close to anyone on that side to get the information from them. Thanks so much for the reply!!! Shanda

Goad - Slick Rock Cemetery
You are correct about Marshal Goad and Elizabeth Sexton Goad being buried in the Slick Rock Cemetery. Leabert, Aaron, and a young sister (I believe her name was Glennis) are also buried there. There is one brother still living (Bill, age 90). Leabert was my father.

Ken:
What is the name of you book? I would be interested in reading it. Are you related to the Scott County Goads. If so, how? By the way, I'm Shanda's mother. I've noticed that you have been corresponding with her.

My Goad ancestors never left Virginia until my Goad mother did. I research Goads EVERYWHERE just for the fun of it. The book I wrote can be ordered from me at 3983 Partridge Circle, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722 for $ 16.95 which includes postage. I entitled it,"The Goads, A Frontier Family" which they truly were on many frontiers from Virginia to California. I have only the very remotest connection to the Scott County Goads. --- Ken Haas

Do know He lived in Xenia, Illinois, Then Granite City Illinois. They had five children, and separated. Jackie : I have an Edward Goad, age eight on the 1880 census, born in Indiana, living in Wayne County, Ill. He was the ward of Andrew Colwell. That is the only Edward I have. There is an EDWIN M., age two, in 1880 Xenia, Ill. (Clay Co). Could your relative have been Edwin instead od Edward ??? - Ken Haas
