Albertine Gnadt in Wisconsin
Saw the Manitowoc connection. I have an Albertine Gnadt, born December 2, 1845, married Frederich Naumann (25 years her senior) in Manitowoc County in 1869. She died in 1913.
Connection?

Re: Looking for relatives
Hi Michael, I might know some things. I live in Wisconsin. I am probably related to you somehow. I mean, how common is the name Gnadt, right? If you would like more information, feel free to email me at ralphia@visto.com I think this might be interesting.

Albertine was a female. Do you still there might have been a relation?

Re: reply to shirley kyle
My husband's grandmother was Augusta Gnadt who married Fredrich Fink and Herman Havenstein. She immigrated in 1884 and lived the rest of her life in Wabaunsee County, KS. She listed Albert Gnadt, Paxico, KS, as her brother on the alien registration during WWI. She lists her parents as Carl Gnadt and Augusta Palenske. Please let me know if we can share information.

Karen, I am looking for the ancestors of my husband's grandmother, Augusta Gnadt, who immigrated to Wabaunsee Co., KS in 1884 from Jarbow (?), Lauenburg, Pomerania. Her father was Carl Gnadt, mother Augusta Palenske. Her brother, Albert, also immigrated to Wabaunsee, KS. Have you found any of these names in the German records that you have researched?

The records I looked at did not have Carl Gnadt or Augusta Palenske. (I went back through what I copied and through some Neuhof records from another researcher.) You might try ordering the civil register for Charbrow from the LDS Family History Library. It might provide some clues. I wish I could be of more help. There are many Gnadt lines from Lauenburg. Maybe someone will find a common ancestor!

Thank you for your time and trouble. There were so many similarities between our Gnadts, I thought it was worth a shot. Karen

Re: Albertine Gnadt in Wisconsin
My wife's grandfather was a John Naumann of Green Bay WI. In searching for his parents I came across a death record for a Marie Naumann in Manitowoc Co WI 6 Feb 1869. She is listed as 41 years old, and the wife of Frederick Naumann. I also have a marriage in the same county and township for a Frederick Naumann and Albertine Gnaht 6 Dec 1869. This is consistent with family lore that "Frederick's first wife died and he 'sent over' to Europe for another one almost right away". In the 1870 census is a John, aged 1, presumably the first child born to this second marriage. However, in the 1900 census John says he was born in Feb 1871, and this age is consistent with the 1880 census, in which he is 9; the 1910, when he says he is 38, and the 1920, when he says he is 48. I can only conclude that either (1) a son John was born in 1869, died, and the next child, born roughly two years later, is this John; or (2) John's father is someone other than Frederick. Any thoughts?
