Message: Surnames : BURNOSKY, BURANOVSKY, BUCSKO, KOLODZEJ, GRESCHAK, PALYUSUF(sp?), BILSZKY, SZTARUCH, KULYKA, KULKA, KASPRIK, ROPJAK, SIKORA, ROZSEK, PEKAR, GMITTER. These are some of the surnames that I am searching for. My great grandfather, Paul Peter Buranovszky, was born in Bartejov(Bartfa), Slovakia. Some of the other villages that I have found with this surname are Rokito(Rokytov), Tarno (Tarnov), Kruzlov, Sverzuv, & Gaboltov, all in Slovakia.
If there is anyone out there searching for these surnames would you please contact me as I would really like to put together my family. Thank you in advance.

Tim,
My grandparents on my mother's side were Gmitters. George Gmitter is my grandfather, he married Susan Dzurenda in Ashley, PA on Sept. 29 1909. George Gmitter is reported in our family records by his eldest daughter Elizabeth (my aunt, now deceased) to have been born in the village Kurima of the Kosice area of Autstria/Hungary on March 4, 1886. My mom Theresa Gmitter was born in 1927 in Ashley, PA.
In a brief discussion and quick look at my mother's records going back another generation past her parents, the name BURANOVSKY does not come up. So I'm not sure if any of the above information can help you.
We are having a reunion of Gmitters this July in and around the Washington DC area. Currently I do not know much of the Slovak side of my family but am making a stab at it for the reunion.
Perhaps we can collaborate on a few things. What is your interest in the Gmitter line?
Please reply here through the message board in the interest of any other researchers but also include a message to me at

Thanks and best regards,
