Tim,
My grandparents on my mother's side were Gmitters. George Gmitter is my grandfather, he married Susan Dzurenda in Ashley, PA on Sept. 29 1909. George Gmitter is reported in our family records by his eldest daughter Elizabeth (my aunt, now deceased) to have been born in the village Kurima of the Kosice area of Autstria/Hungary on March 4, 1886. My mom Theresa Gmitter was born in 1927 in Ashley, PA.
In a brief discussion and quick look at my mother's records going back another generation past her parents, the name BURANOVSKY does not come up. So I'm not sure if any of the above information can help you.

We are having a reunion of Gmitters this July in and around the Washington DC area. Currently I do not know much of the Slovak side of my family but am making a stab at it for the reunion.
Perhaps we can collaborate on a few things. What is your interest in the Gmitter line?
Please reply here through the message board in the interest of any other researchers but also include a message to me at bmarple@aol.com.
Thanks and best regards,
William Marple

P.S. I´m sorry, my english is not very well.

Best regards,

I have a 4X great grandmother with the last name of GMITRISIN. The family comes from the villages of Udol and Hajtovka in NE Slovakia in Saros county. Have you ever seen a variation of your surname that is similar to this? Do you know how far your home town is from these villages?

Ray,

village Udol is 20 km far from my home town Bardejov in NE Slovakia. Former it was Saros county, but now is Udol in Stara Lubovna district.I have found website www.carpatho-rusyn.org/villages/udol.htm. There are also some photographies from Udol on this site.

Sorry for my english.

Regards

William,

I have the Gmitrisin surname in my family which I believe may be a variation of Gmitter. My family is from the villages of Udol and Hajtovka in Stara Lubovna County. Perhaps you may find a connection during your Gmitter reunion in July. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

My great-grandmother was Vilma Bilszky from Nagsy Sankvicz, (Austria). From what I have found, she came to US in 1910 and stayed with her sister, Klara Bilszky in Chicago, Illinois. It appears both indicated Anton Bilszky as their father. Vilma married Frank Hajicek about 1912 and they had my grandmother, Clara Hajicek. Anything in your records regarding the above? I am from Illinois....
