I am trying to put together a family history
and am interested in hearing from other people
with the surname Gmeiner, or if they know of
any relative (living or deceased) with this
name.

Please email me on the above address with any
information you may have - big or small.

Thankyou

Gmeiner

Read your July 1999 message. I've just discovered my great grandfather had a step-father named Baptist Gmeiner (b. 8 Aug 1809 and d. 1 March 1878). He married Franziska Bachmann (b. 29 Nov 1806 and d. 25 Nov 1877)between 1832 and 1840. They were both from the Hard, Austria. Gmeiner could be my great grandfather's biological father, but am not sure as my great great grandmother had 2 children out of wedlock before she married Gmeiner. She had 5 other children by Gmeiner.
I hope this info helps you, and if you have any other info I might be interested in, please e-mail it to me.
My maiden name is Bachmann and I was born and lived most of my life in Akron. I've been in AZ since 1985.

Hi, I am a Gmeiner living in Maryland. My father's family was from Philadelphia. The oldest Gmeiner is my grandmother who is 90 years old and lives in Ohio. I would like to meet other Gmeiner's. I have three sisters and two brothers. I would love to discuss the Gmeiner history.

Hi Tim,
My great great grandfather is George Gmeiner also. We must be related. My grandmother Cecelia Gmeiner is 90 years old and lives in Ottawa, OH. I live in Maryland. My brother was named after our great great grandfather. His name is George Ambrose Gmeiner. Keep in touch so we can see how we are related. Where do you live?

Hi Sue,
I read your message. It sounds like most of the Gmeiner's settled in Ohio. My grandmother lives in Ottawa, Ohio. I have not heard of Baptist Gmeiner. I will ask my father. He may know of him. I may have other information also.

Jennifer,
I live in Hudson, OH, just south of Cleveland. What was your grandmother's father's name? My great-grandmother was Theresa Gmeiner (born 28 Feb 1876, died 26 Dec 1932). You can contact me at moffitt@stratos.net It would be great to verify the family connection! Looking forward to your reply.

Do let me know if you find out about Baptist Gmeiner and/or his decendents or earlier ancestors. I would like it for the tree.

I did find out that Gmeiner was not my great grandfather's biological father. A researcher in Hard got back to me on Monday afternoon and said she had found the papers on which Gmeiner applied to the government to marry my great grandmother. She said in those days couples had to prove they were living proper lives and could support children if they married. On the papers,my great grandmother was listed as having no property and 3 children out of wedlock by a married man, 2 children of whom were still living at that time (one was my grandfather). I'm still trying to search for who that "married man" might have been so I can go back further on my great grandfather's genealogy.

Researching the material I was sent, my great grandfather's stepfather's name was:
Johann Baptist Gmeiner; I think I had just typed Baptist.
Sorry. Let me know if you find anything, will you? Thanks.
