THE ESTATE SETTLEMENT OF CATHERINE
LOWE

Several days ago, I posted this information. The first page
was a table which I think is important. The table as posted
was garbled by the computers during transmission.
Therefore, here is a second try to extract the parts of the
document that are useful..

Catherine Lowe died intestate and her estate settlement was
found by Glenda Bundrick of Newberry, SC. The
document was written in Newberry District in South
Carolina on April 11, 1827. The administrator of the estate
was Lemuel Glymph, son of John Glymph, as is shown in
the document. I will spell out abbreviations like “Jno” for
“John”. There are four legal pages. Parts not legible will
have “????” Al Metts
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------
Page 1.
The total amount for the estate was $1, 726.11. There are
six persons listed for equal shares of $287.68 1/2.
(Pennies were devided in 1827.) The six shares were to:

1. Emanuel Glimph (The name “Emanuel is abbreviated.)
2. Heirs of Elizabeth Suber ( She died in 1825.)
3. Lemuel Glymph (The document states, “My own share”.
He was the Administrator.)
4. John Heller (Question - no “& Wife”, why?)
5. John H. Gallman & Wife
6. Nancy Shell (Question - Why no husband’s name?)

Each of the five “Heirs of Elizabeth Suber” received 1/5 of
her $287.68 1/2. Each share was $57.54. Elizabeth was the
wife of Michael Suber. The persons listed are:

1. Emanuel Suber
2. J. T. Suber (John Thomas)
3. George T. Suber (John George)
4. P. Mitts & Wife (Rebecah - She married Philip Mitts -
Metz/Mitts/Metts)
5. George Egner & Wife (Susanah Ignor - the will names
her husband as George Ignor.)

(The will of Michael Suber was written in 1813, The
names in parentheses, above, are the exact listing in
Michael’s will. Further, Michael and Elizabeth had one
other son named “Abraham”. He is not listed above.
Question - Why was he not included? Also, note the
significance of a son named Abraham, as in “Johann
Abraham Glymph”!)

Each of the four “Heirs of John Glymph” received 1/4 of
his $287.68 1/2. Each share was $71.92. The persons
listed are:

1. John Ruff & Wife
2. G. J. Cannon & Wife
3. John Glymph
4. “My own Share” (This is Lemuel Glymph, the
administrator who wrote the document.)

Below the table there is a sworn statement signed by
Lemuel Glymph. Note, the above Elizabeth Suber is an
ancestor of Al Metts. Her children as listed are correct
although there are slight variations as noted in parenthesis.
Elizabeth Glymph Suber was born in 1767 and died in
1825. The information, above may or may not indicate that
the female children of Catherine Lowe were named
Glimph. In the document below, note that there was
another child, May, wife of David Cromer, who did not get
a share because Catherine Lowe had given her money
before Catherine died. Further, the signatures at the end of
the next document may indicate the names of children
called “& Wife”.

There may be errors in the transcription. Soon, I will be 81
years old. Younger and smarter people should be able to
study this document and make some conclusions about the
“Did Catherine Lowe marry Johann Abraham Glymph?”
mystery. By law, the shares of the estate go to children of
Catherine Lowe - fact. Also, ask questions about dates.
Elizabeth Suber was born in 1767 - fact. Then, was JAG
married to Cathrine Lowe in 1767? He had a wife named
Catherine ??? in 1770 on Four Hole Swamp - fact. How do
the kids fit in with the Ancestry.com lists? I know the
names of the children of Michael Suber and Elizabeth
Glymph. Metz became Mitts became Metts. Patience and
Persistence!
