BOCA RATON, FLA. – Dr. Edward Joseph Gluck, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1923, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of the late Henry and Theresa (Goldberg) Gluck.
Eddie graduated from The Rayen School in Youngstown, Ohio received a B.A. in Biochemistry from The Ohio State University, attended Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and graduated from New York Medical College.
He completed his Medical Residency at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, where he was very proud to have conducted the first clinical trials with Prednisone in Rheumatic Diseases.
He established a private practice in New York City, specializing in internal medicine and was on staff at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City for more than 30 years before retiring to Youngstown, then to Boca Raton.
He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kalla Fine Gluck, and his brother and best friend, Paul (Yetta) Gluck of Youngstown, Ohio.
He was predeceased by a sister, Harriet Liebermann.
Eddie was the cherished father of Stephanie Nason, Pat (Hilderic) Browne, Dana (Richard) Levy Germain, Heidi (Kenneth) Wiegand, Michael (Mindy) Levy and Dori Leib and adored grandfather of Alexandra and Stephen Nason, Alegra, Ryker, Ellery and Davis Germain, Ethan and Madison Wiegand, Maxwell, Gabriel and Ely Levy, and Caitlin and Jenner Leib. He leaves a host of additional loving nieces, nephews and friends as well.
Eddie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dr. Gluck was a longtime member of the Congregation Rodef Sholom in Youngstown.
Services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at the Congregation Rodef Sholom Chapel at Tod Homestead Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave. in Youngstown.
