Jan Stephen's Gliddon family came from near Okehampton, Devon, England. I now have a lot of information about this family group if anyone is interested. My own ancestor Alexander Gliddon was born in Okehampton in 1766 and went to London to make his fortune. His decendants lived in Hackney, now part of London, for over 150 years.

Julie, you need to look under the surname Giliddon on the official 1901 census web site to find your Henry & John. They are children of Frank & Alice from Pyworthy.
Good luck with your search. If you need more help email me.

Hi Pluggy!
If you look on the IGI for Devon your should be able to reconstruct Charles' parents and grandparents by looking in Powerham & before that in Kenn, both villages in Devon. That will take you back to a Joseph Gliddon who married in 1748. He might be the same Joseph Gliddon who was born in Okehampton in 1723 in which case he journeyed across Dartmoor some 20 or so miles. I do know the parents and grandparents of this man and the grandparents are the earliest of my Gliddon ancestors that I can trace.
Good luk with your quest.
Eileen

Hi, i have just discovered Gliddons in my family tree. My great great grandmother was Sarah Gliddon who married John Clark, both born and married in Hackney. I think her father was the Alexander Gliddon who was born 1766 in Okehampton. ant further info very much appreciated.
