My G-grandfather was Leslie Glidden of Dover, NH. He was the son of George W. Glidden. My great uncle Robert Glidden said that George took off to Michigan sometime after Leslies birth in 1875. I found in the Family Search site that a George W. Glidden married Lydia A. Warner in Van Buren, Mich. on 7/8/1881. George was apparently born in Glenburn, Me on 2/12/1847. Can anybody help with this guy? Thank you!

My name is Brad Gliiden, I am the great-grandson of a George W. Glidden of Michigan. Did you ever find the connection you wanted? My great-grandfather was a newspaper man for a Lansing Michigan publication. He is buried in Plymouth, Michigan. I don't know too much else but I'll ask my dad if you think it's what you're looking for. You can reach me at glidden@stic.net

Hi Brad,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if this is the same George I'm looking for. Do you have any dates? I suspect that your George is probably too recent. Mine was born in 1853 and died in Michigan in 1910, we think.
Please let me know.
Thanks again, Rolf

Rolf,

Actually the timing is about right! My dad (LeRoy L. Glidden) was born in 1923. His father (Clement E. Glidden) had him when he was in his late 30's or early 40's (I think). That would but his birth sometime around 1880's. If George W. was around 30 at the time, it would put his birth close to your 1853 date. I've passed your reply along to my dad to see if he can remember any of the exact dates. I also know that our George W. Glidden was married twice. My grand father had two brothers, Earl (who died in an elevator accident) and LeRoy (who died in a plague). Our George was a newspaper man in Lansing, Michigan and is buried in Plymouth (or Salem), Michigan. My dad said that a couple of his cousins are still alive and he is considering trying to contact them to see what they know. I"ll let you know what I find out anything or get my dad to write to you. Thanks for your reply, I hope we'll have someting to pass along to you!
Best regards,

Brad

Hey Brad! Thanks again. This begins to look interesting. My Great-grandfather, Leslie Glidden was the son of George W. and Jennie A. Winn Glidden. He was born12/26/1875, so again, dates look pretty good. My great -uncle Bob Glidden said that the story was that George took off to Michigan and married again, but without divorcing Jennie. It would sure be great if your George is our's also. I don't suppose that there might be any pictures in existence?
We have been working on the Glidden line pretty extensively and are about to get it into written form. I suspect that this would be of interest to you?
We have a site on My Family that includes the Gliddens, would you like to be included so that you could meet your new cousins? If so, let me know and I'll send you an invite, we have a lot of fun and we learn a lot at the same time. Lots of pictures too, some that you would find interesting.

Hey Rolf! Just when it was getting interesting I got new information on our George W. Glidden. He was born in Livingstone County, Michigan in 1857. He married Mary Allen (his first wife) and had two sons Earl and Clem (my grandfather). Mary died in 1883. George married again, this time to Imogene Boyne and they had two daughters Inez and Winnie.
I was really begining to enjoy our corespondence and the mystery was a bit more exciting than the facts. I'm sorry if I got your hopes up, but as I continue my search, if I find anything that might sound like your George W., I'll be sure to write. Thanks again for your responses and kindness!
Best of luck in your search.

Brad

Hi Brad -
I just found your posting from a year ago regarding the Gliddens of DeKalb IL. My gg grandfather, George Albert Glidden, is believed to have been born in DeKalb in 1864 to parents, Orson T. Glidden and Phoebe A. Palmer. Any change you've run across these names in your research? Orson was born in Clarendon NY to parents James and Juliet.
Thanks!
