Franz L. Glueckert came to America aboard the "Orion" in August 1853, at age 17. He came with his mother, Marie Catherine Glueckert, and his sister Anna, aged 14. By the time he married in 1861 to Elizabeth Kneves, his name was Francis on his marriage certificate, and by the 1870 Census, he was Francis Glickert. He was born about 1836 (in Hesse Darmstadt, Alsace Lorraine, or Prussia, depending on the source) and died in June 1907 in St. Louis. He had three sons with Elizabeth: Francis Thomas Glickert (my great-great grandfather), Louis G. Glickert, and William P. Glickert. I would appreciate any info on these people and would especially like to contact descendants of the daughters (Matilda, Cecilia, and Frances) of Louis and Elizabeth Hillebrand Glickert.

After posting this earlier, I found Elizabeth Kneves in the 1850 Census in Pike Co., Ill. as 17 years old in the home of 31 year old Wm. H. Kneves. After visiting the court house in Pittsfield, Pike Co., Illinois a couple weeks ago, I now know Elizabeth was the wife of William H. Kneves, since she was so named in 2 deeds dated 1850 and 1856. I went back to St. Louis and checked marriage records. She was Elizabeth Gryta and married Wm. H. Kneaves of Kentucky in 1849. This just results in more unanswered questions. It is possible she and William had several young children who died between 1854-1856 in St. Louis. William died August 1861, and Elizabeth married my gg-grandfather Franz Glüeckert (Glickert) in Dec. 1861 in St. Louis. (She brought no children to the marriage).
I would love to know more about Elizabeth Gryta's parents, where she was born, etc. (Censuses give Missouri for her, France for her father, and Kentucky for her mother, but searches thus far have been fruitless).
Still looking for Franz (Frank's) mother and sister. I have had lots of success with his descendants, but would love to find a descendant with whom to share data.

I am looking for a Glickert that married my GGrandma Myrtle Glickert. do not know date, I do not even know when she died. My Grandma was Erma {Harris} Setzer born 10 May 1908, I do know that my grandma had a Brother Harold Jackson, Do not know which was older. BUT when my GGrandma died she was a GLICKERT. DO you have any info on this or is it the wrong line. I do know Myrtle GLickert lived in St. Louis
I cannot find her maiden name.

Hi Vicky,

I have her as Myrtle Jackson, b. June 8, 1889, d. Sept. 14, 1975. She married Carl Andrew Glickert on Oct. 25, 1937. Myrtle was his 2nd. wife. If you can get a copy of her death certificate, it will give her maiden name as well as the names of her parents (if the informant knew). The index is online only thru 1955.

Last name and marriage date obtained from St. Louis Marriages #372181, Vol. 129, p. 566.

Carl died March 26, 1971; buried March 30, 1971 at Befferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo.

I have more data on this family if interested. E-mail me directly at bgmcgowan@aol.com.

This line is the "second" family of our German immigrant ancestor--I am from the "first", but have researched all of his descendants.

Hi, This is very familiar. I found Myrtle's family a couple years ago. Another Glickert descendant sent me a couple photos of Myrtle. I am a great granddaughter of the immigrant Frank Glickert by his first wife Elizabeth Ann Gryta Kneves. Lena (Magdalena Kempf) was his 2nd wife.

I have researched both families, but have no photos of your Glickert line (except Myrtle).

I would be thrilled to share data and photos. Please contact me privately at bgmcgowan@aol.com. Leona, I look forward to hearing from you.
