Is there anyone out there interested in the UK side of the Gleaves, especially from Willingham. I have 10 generations almost entirely from one village dating from the 1720s. Would love to hear from anyone else researching same name or marrying in to the family.

Hi Mandy!
I'm very interested in the information you have. I know the family goes back to England. I know many of the men in the family were potters, etc., and at least one worked for Wedgwood. One may have received a title of nobility, I understand.
Please email me at genealogy@scoop0901.net.

Thanks,
Dave

I have several thousand Gleaves on my database. This is my husband, Jerry Lee Gleaves family. Some time ago I did some corresponding over the internet with someone in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. I have Matthew Gleaves (Glaves) whose father, I have, was Thomas Gleaves and Anne Sneesby whose children were Thomas, Joseph, Matthew, John. Thomas was born about 1720 in Willingham, Cabridgeshire, England. Thomas' father was Matthew Gleaves who was supposed to be married to Amy ???. The children Alice, Ann, Thomas and Elizabeth. Does any of these names correspond to any names that you have?

Thanks for any bit of information that you could give me.

my e-mail address is jgleaves@hotmail.com

Hi Gary,
Great to see another Gleaves from Willingham.
We are descended from Matthew Gleaves, son of
Thomas Gleaves and Anne Sneesby(we think?).
We are trying to determine how and when
Matthew came to the United States. We think
he came through Philadelphia, but cannot find
any ship list that contains his name. We have a marriage in Penn. in October 1745 and
then his death in Virginia in 1790(without a
will). Do you have any descendents of Matthew's other brothers-Thomas, Joseph, and John still around Willingham that might have
family notes about what happened to their
"roaming uncle" that went to the "colonies".

I also have the original copy of the Turner
Diary that Jean Gleaves referred to in her
reply to you.
My e-mail is: gleavew@peak.org

Best regards,
Bill Gleaves

Hello Mandy,
Have you delivered your "little twig" to
the family tree yet?
Are you still talking to Gary from London?
I saw his posting on Ancestry.com.
I just spend two weeks in Tennessee doing
genealogy research so I am "fired up" again.
I am especially interested in Mattthew
Gleaves, son of Thomas and Anne Sneesby.
You previously said you had a small amount
of info about him. Would you share what little info you have. I also now have the
microfish for babtisms, marriages, and
deaths in Willingham so I am combing them for
info. Anything will help.
You said that you had several generations of
Gleaves from Willingham inyour data base. Is
it in form that you could transmit me a copy.
Iam just learning how to use my Family Tree
Maker and I will try to send you a copy of my
tree.
Best regards,
Bill Gleaves

Sorry Lisa, all my lot hail from Cambridgeshire but I do know that there are quite a bunch around the south Manchester/Cheshire side, also GLEAVE with no S.

Happy hunting, good luck and if you find a Cambridge connection (my lot were prolific and produced numerous children for each family) please get in touch.

Gleaves?! I want to hear more!

Please send anything you have! There are a lot of us here in the US looking for just that information, we hope! I, too, am descended from Mathew Gleaves b. c1720, who we all believe to be the son of Thomas Anne Sneesby Gleaves but don't have any significant proof. It does seem that the Gleaves family has more than it's share of genie fans...we'll pass what you can give us along to others. I am still compiling my list, as I keep coming up with more more Gleaves info, but will forward to you soon if you would be interested. Please let me know. I would love to receive a gedcom file if you have it, but would be happy with anything you have.
Thank you for your help!
