Here is a small bit of information I ran across this morning that sheds a little light on the GLEAVES side. I believe I've ruled out any ties to GLEAVES in TN and MO, but I'm not certain yet. Below is the info I found. If anyone has anything linking anywhere, please contact me.

Kathryn Barbara Geissel (1918-1983) (maternal grandmother) married William Lloyd Ireton Gleaves (19??-1982) (maternal grandfather). His father was William Henry Gleaves, who came to the U.S. from England in early the 1900s. He may have first settled in Illinois (no info on where). His wife was Edna (no info on maiden name), who was Scottish and English. She may have been from Haverton, PA., and some information indicated the couple may have lived in Haverton, PA. He had an antique and pottery shop. Most of the Gleaves' men in this line of the family were potters or carpenters. A brother or cousin was U.S. Navy Adm. Henry Gleaves. Henry had brother named Albert who also worked with Wedgwood plates. He received some kind of noble title for his Wedgwood work, or possibly someone earlier in the family line, but the title is there, you just have to find it. There was also at least one Lady-in-Waiting in the Gleaves line.

Dave,
Some of your info is familiar to me. Admiral Albert Gleaves was born 1858 in Nashville, TN. He was the only son (5 sisters) of Henry Albert Gleaves (1823-1877) and Eliza Tannehill. Henry ran a bookstore in Nashville with his two brother-in-laws. Albert had a very distingushed career that included action in the Spanish American War and WWI. He was a personal friend of Teddy Roosevelt. He married Evelina Mary Heap in 1889 and they had two daughters. Albert did retire to PA after his military career. I have the name of the town as Haverford, Pennsylvania. The William H. Gleaves that I wrote about earlier would have been Albert's third cousin. Albert's line is traced back to Matthew Gleaves/Glaves Sr. who died in Augusta County, Virginia about 1760.

Hope this helps.

Hi, hope you are still on Ancestry.com! This is very familiar! In fact William Henry Gleaves is my grandfather. My grandmother is Edna Elsie Gleaves and their son is my father! The information you have sounds very identical to mine. The Gleaves were from Staffordshire, England and they came from a long line of potters. I think my great grandfather or grandfather worked for Joshua Wedgwood and received some sort of title for designing a plate for I think Queen Victoria, and I think I had an uncle who was and admiral or something (will have to look at my notes). I know this is almost 10 years later but hope you get this post!
