I wonder if your greatgrandfather Joseph Gleave was brother to my greatgrandfather Peter Gleave. From my notes, Peter was born 1858 in Oldhams Lancs and his older brother Joseph was born in Waterhead Lancs in 1852. Their parents were John Gleave (or Glave) and Alice Gleave (maiden name Lucas).

Hello I wonder if you have any information regarding Herbert Gleave? He lived in Ashton Under Lyne and owned a newsagents on Old Street during the war. He had seven children; Rose, Harold, Alice, Burt, Elsie and the Twins Joan and Renee.

I believe he died in 1954 and his wife Martha died around 1945.

I have got this information from my father and from Harold's wife Rita.

I am pretty new to researching and would be grateful for any help you can give me.

I realize that I am replying 4 years after your post, but if your Herbert Gleave is Herbert Leigh Gleave, b. 1882, I have info on his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents that I would be happy to share.

I don't have a Joseph in my Gleave family tree but my grandfather Frederick was born in Waterhead, Oldham in 1882. There was a big family as his father Ellis was married 3 times. Could there be any connection?

I have just seen your post from 2005 and saw your ancestors originated in Waterhead, Oldham. My grandfather Frederick Gleave was also born in Greenacres not far from Waterhead in 1883. I don't know of any Josephs in our family tree but wondered if there could be a connection? Frederick's parents were Ellis Gleave and Ellen Colley but I know Ellis was married 3 times second and third wives being Lucy Rogers and Martha Meaden so there could be a connection there.
