It would be fantastic if it could be prooved without a doubt .we are really pleased just to have found out about rosetta as she was just a mystery on a death certificte before it also uncovered quite a sad story how all her children were orphened my mum is getting on now and knew nothing about her family beyond her mother so she is really pleased. best wishes Sharon.

Hi Sharon and Georgina, The group who created the website referred to have traced John Glanville's ancestry as follows:
John GLANVILLE b.c. 1815 m Mary Ann COLLINS
son of
Richard GLANVILLE b.c.1782 m Susannah HARVEY
son of
Edward GLANVILLE b.c 1762 m Ann SPRIDDLE
son of
Richard GLANVILLE b c. 1735 m(2) Sarah COUCH
son of
Richard GLANVILLE b. c. 1904 m Elizabeth SAINTHILL
son of
Edward GLANVILLE b when? m Charity TINKHAM
After much research, we have not traced Edward's ancestry for certain. It is certainly not as given in the book "Records of the Anglo Norman House of Glanville 1050 - 1880" by William Urmston S Glanville-Richards. We know that the book is far from accurate in many places. It suggests that one line of Edward's ancestry goes back to William the Conquerer. Many books published about that time made similar claims with no proof from church or other records. I would be interested to know if you have traced that ancestry from reliable records.
I am pleased that you found our website:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~glanville/index.htm...
Kind regards
Ray Turner
rturner@xtra.co.nz

hi georgina,. rossetta glanville was also my grandmothers grandmoher, she was ethel maud howlett she was the eldest of rossettas children she was 18 and pregnant herself when her mother died soon after giving birth to rossetta alexandra.my grandmother jessie rossetta was born the same year as rossetta alexandra.the family were orphaned after the death of john howlett a few monthes after his wife and the family were split up.rossetta glanville was the last of 8 children born to john glanville d.ob 1816 and mary ann collins d.o.b 1825.4 children werw born in cornwll and 4 were born in ireland as we believe john was a royal navy man who traveled back and for with his family, he died the year that rossetta was born aged 44.thefamily has its roots in maker cornwall and if you go to the site the glanvilles of devon and cornwall on the internet this is our family .And johns gravestone inscription is on there ,we actully visited the churchyard last year and it is a really beautifull place they came from.i dont know how much imformation you already have but i have names and dates of birh going back further if you want.Which of rossetta glanvilles children do you decend from. best wihes sharon.

Hi,

My husband's family also moved up to Cumberland from Camborne, Cornwall. William is half brother of his GGG - Edwin Glanville who ultimately lived in Arlecdon, Cumberland from 1877 until 1887 when he died. William's father is Johnson Glanville who married Anne Nicholls in 1817, they had three children, Johnson b.1817, Anne b.1819 and William b.1821. His wife Anne then died in 1823. Johnson then married Anne Batten, and they went on to have 7 children, and my GGG Edwin Batten Glanville was the youngest, born in 1844. If you require any further details, please get in touch.

Henry Edward Glanville is not "supposedly" buried in Australia! What I show at my web sites are not made up, altered, assumed or fabricated. They are all genuine data which has been verified from documentation obtained through the years. We have known about Glanville's status now for years, and we have much more that is not shown. What we reveal we do for a purpose, as I stated to some of my fellow researchers. And this purpose is to show that others will unscrupulously take this data as their own, and try to claim credit. I have been proven correct, as I have told a number of persons that I am placing "some" data online, and that this will obviously be copied, and no further data shown. Yet our records hold a lot more, that is often not revealed, and for very obvious reasons.
Glanville was an important research project of ours, so we have collected much more than what is shown online or in published sources, thankfully.

Re: William Glanville 1855 Bermuda

My 3rd great grandfather, William Glanville, was the son of Frederick Glanville who I believe was a tailor in London. My William was born 1818 in Stoke Newington, Middlesex, England and lived his married life in Birch, Colchester, Essex, England until his death in 1868. He was a footman for the Charles Roundy who lived at Birch Hall during the 1840s through William's death at age 50.

Does anyone know how many families of Glanvilles were living in the London area then? Were they related to one another? From the research I have done my line appears to be pretty easy to find. Having said that, however, I have not gone back earlier than Frederick Glanville who died around 1853 if I remember correctly.

My William Glanville married Ann Clark in about 1841. Their children were:
James
William Charles
Charles Thomas
Mary
Harry
Edmund
George
Agnes Adelaide

If you think you connect with this family, let me hear from you. Thanks.

Hi John nice to hear from you and from such a long way in Australia. The problem with Ireland there are no census to look up! My Rosetta/Rosatta just says born in Dublin on one of the England census records. I am doing really well on her husbands family the Howletts, I have managed to go back to 1650. I came across a five generation cousin the other evening. I will keep your details and any information I think you may be interested in I will email to you.
Kind Regards Georgina

Hi Sherri

I have not been researching Glanville's too long, but see that your 3rd great grandfather (c1818) William's parents were Frederic Glanville and Elizabeth. If my research is correct, done by backtracking and using various information from other web-sites, the Frederic and Elizabeth (Crosby)are my 4th great grandparents.
Regards
Sue
I am looking for information about my great-great-great-grandmother Sophia, from the 1871 and 1881 census I have discovered she was born in about 1849 in Hereford.

She married John Glanville of Oxfordshire(1828-1888) sometime before 1871, but I have no idea when or where. They had 7 children that I know about: John Edward, James, Alice Sophia, Annie, Gertrude, Elizabeth and Mary.

After John died she married again, to Walter Summers in Swansea, Wales.

If anyone has any information on Sophia's background, family or even her maiden name I would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Laura.

I wondered if anyone Stateside knew anything about an Ernest Albert Glanvill (possibly spelt Glanville) who quit Clerkenwell, London, England, for RI, most likely Providence, around 1900. We believe he married in 1917 and died in 1969 aged 90 in Cranston, RI. He was my great great uncle but lost touch with my grandparents in the 1930s.

I would love to find out if we have cousins in New England.

Do you know where in the UK William and Elizabeth lived when their sons Thomas and John left for the USA?

My ancestors were mostly from Devon and Cornwall (Tavistock, Plymouth and elsewhere), but some were London based and others Norfolk/Suffolk.

Since my initial message I have traced a Louisa Glanville d. 1944 at Cootamundra NSW Australia and her parents were Joseph and Sarah Barrett. She seems to be the one I'm looking for but can't locate birth. I'm thinking that she may have been born overseas but then again I can't locate birth of my great grandfather (her husband)either. I may be some indirect connection but I haven't come across others that you mentioned.

Thanks again and regards
Di

Hi Di

re your message about Louisa

My Louisa BARRETT/BARRATT was born November 2 1813 in Colyton, Devon. Daughter of Hezekiah BARRATT (b 1789, Colyton)and Susanna PERRYMAN (daughter of William PERRYMAN and Hester PERRY). Hezekiah and Susanna married 31 Dec 1812 in Branscombe England.

This makes Louisa the Aunt of Walter Edward BARRATT (married to Hannah GLANVILLE)and thus far I've only found some of Walter's children emigrating to Australia, so doubt this Louisa was ever in Australia. As far as I can see Walter and Hannah didn't have a daughter named Louisa but of course it is possible one of the children who emigrated may well have had a daughter by that name, so there is a possibilty that there is a connection somewhere along the Barratt line.

If you link to any of these names please contact me again and I can give you a few more details re the children in each family.

Regards
Thelma
Johannesburg South Africa

G'Day Catherine,
Not Burden but Bawden. Look at free 1881 census via Rootsweb to see Jacob Glanville married to Honor (nee Bawden) one child has mothers maiden name. RG11 Piece 2282, Folio 124, Page 26. Previous census trails take both of them back to 1841 and forward to 1901. Any chance Bawden is the same as Burden? I have a lot of info on that particular Glanville family line.
Cheers

G'Day All,
I have looked at 47th Regimental Paybooks. William Glanville was born at St Andrews Devon, he enlisted on 3 Feb 1831, he was a brush maker at enlistment and was discharged at his own request on 15 Mar 1849 in Limerick Ireland. He served in Edinburgh, Ireland, Gibraltar, Malta, Barbados, St Kitts and England. He married the widow Sophia Duck (previously Killum, nee Gomez) in Daventry England in 1844 and they came to Western Australia in 1851. No where has he left a record of his age but presuming he was at least 15 when he enlisted he was born before 1816. Does this new information about his place of birth help? I have tried to find him via this board before without success but there may be new people reading the messages now.
Cheers, John in Western Oz

I am also from this line. Thomas Glanville born in 1848 was also a son of James and Hannah Glanville. He appears with his family on the 1870 census as does your John and his wife Martha with one daughter Lillian. I am trying to find the name of James's father and mother and their national origin. One document that I saw said that the father was born in Scotland. I do know that Hannah was born in England.
