Surnames: Gladdue, Gladue, Gladieux Gladieu, etc...
We are looking for the father and mother of 2 men. The men are Henry & William Gladdue (the current spelling of our last name), but might have been Gladue, or Gladieux. They both state in a 1900 US Census Document that their parents are from France. Henry was 1842-1896, William 1864-? William is my husband's Great-grandfather. These men lived in East St. Louis, Illinois. Henry died with his 16 year-old daughter in the Great Cyclone of 1896 in St. Louis.

Thank you for any information you might have:

Do you have a first name of first wife to Henry? I saw that Rachel was 21 in 1880 census and oldest son was 15. Just curious. I did look at my Missouri Gladieux info and did not see a Henry to match. Not to say it isn't possible. It took me several years and help from France, to connect Gladieux in Ohio to Gladieux in Indiana. Several of the Ohio went to Missouri -

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but in searching I came across an 1880 census for a Matilda Gladdue, born 1869 Missouri, and living as an adopted daughter of Chas. P. and Mary Lebarge in St. Louis, Missouri.

There is also a William Gladdeue, born 1867 Missouri, adopted son of Jane Cypoutte living in St. Louis, Missouri. Could these be children of Henry?

William lists his father as born in MO and mother ILL, while Matilda's census record says MO for both, but I'm sure that info was provided by the adoptive parents.

Actually, both of these children show up twice in the 1880 St. Louis census--it looks like there are relatives.

Search out Jane Cypoutte for 2 1880 records to find William,
Matilda is also listed with Charles Robbin b 1844.

If these kids are unrelated to you, is was fun anyway. :)

I'm going to take a look ... I've seen some really bizarre spellings of the surname. And there were Gladieux in Missouri soooo it is possible - I have come across an Albert Gladieux ... connected somehow but just to find where. :)
