Hi Gladden researchers:

I have been finding that the date of death listed in family trees for Willard Stickley Gladden is "23 Mar 1905" and that he died in Glen Sutton, Brome, Quebec, Canada.

While researching with Ancestry.com, I found his wife Charlotte listed as a widow in the "1901 Canada Census" living with her daughter Nettie May Gladden Bryant.

What I'm wondering is - where did the date "23 Mar 1905" come from for Willard's date of death, if Charlotte was listed as a widow in 1901?

Thank you to anyone that can help me.

Donna

What I have from my cousin is from the Willard's headstone, I believe. He is buried in Glen Sutton at Brook (?)Cemetary and the date you have is the same one I have.

He married Charlotte Randall and she died May 14, 1903. She is buried in Flodden Que. Cemetary. Nettie Mae was their youngest daughter and I descend from the oldest son, Loren Merton Gladden.

I came across this thread today, and in partial answer to your question, Willard actually died on the date given, 23 May 1905. It is documented in the Drouin records in the Sutton (Anglican Church) book for 1905 and is signed off by his sons Loren and Caleb. I have been to both his grave and to Charlotte's and have photos. Bearing in mind that census records are not always correct, perhaps the enumerator assumed she was a widow as Willard was not there, or perhaps the family had some reason to say that?? I read a letter which Charlotte wrote to Willard just months before she passed lamenting the fact that they were apart and wondering when he would get their housing situation settled. It appeared that they were each living with different family members. Although they died apart from one another Loren erected matching grave stones.

I have been working on some ancestry for my cousin's son's wife. Does your Randall have any connection to the following Randall family.
Her ancestor was one of the BHC

the Port of Quebec,on SS Nestorian, 3 July 1871,

and believe William Randall, 15 (the lost brother?) arriving at the Port of Quebec, on the SS Severn on 21 June 1871.

I am replying to this post, as I could not post a reply on your other one.
My daughter's husband family are descendents of Frances Rilla Zeise and James Peever. Their daugher Mrytle Iva Peever married Charles Sydney Williams. Charles and Mrytle are my son in law's great grandparents.
Do you have any information on the parents of Frances and their ancestors. If I am correct, Frances' parents were Thomas Zeise and Mary Wood.
