Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
My grandfather was Edward George Glad who married Catherine Dorothy Oliver. Edward's birthdate is March 18, 1912. I know he had two sisters, Evelyn (Glad) Matis and Mary (Glad) Pasternak. Their mother's name was Evelyn (don't know her maiden name) and their father's name was Michael Glad. That is as far back as I can get. If anyone has any information, please contact me at: catron2@earthlink.netThank you. Cathy

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
Am not sure if you have any information or not, but I'm searching for a John Glad who lived in Illinois during the early '40's. I noticed your messege and thought perhaps you might know someone by that name. John married a girl by the name of Mary Frances who came from Pekin, IL. They may have met in the Chicago area.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
Hi Gary. Sorry for the late reply, but I never received an email telling me you had replied to my message. I'm sorry but I don't have a John Glad that would have been in Illinois at that time. The only John Glad that I know of was from Yugoslavia. I have read some of the other messages and see that you may have found a sister that you didn't know you had. That's great. I hope you find the information you are seeking.

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
Gary. My grandfather, Petar Glad, had a brother named John, who lived in southern Illinois in the 1940s. John, or Ivan, disappeared about that time after a quarrel of some sort with his brothers (the other one was Mike), and was never heard of after that. The family heard that he had moved to Louisiana and that he was killed in an accident down there shortly thereafter. That's all that we know of him. Mike was killed in a mine accident in 1947, and Petar died in 1961 in Johnston City, IL. Joliet is relevant to the Glad family because the Ellis Island records show Petar as coming to the US from Jablan, Croatia, near Vrbovsko in 1906, and he listed an address in Joliet as his destination. Petar moved to Kansas City shortly after that, met my Grandmother and returned to Joliet for a while, because my father, Edward, was born in Joliet in 1915. Hope this helps you. What is your relationship to John?

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
Sorry to have taken so long to respond to your message. I haven't pursued John from your perspective yet but hopefully will soon. Thanks so much for sharing that information.
I believe that John Glad was my father who was in the military and had married my mother, Mary Francis Miener (maiden) in Illinois prior to moving to Texas in 1944. I was born Gary Gean Glad. There is very little information about John Glad. I'm not sure what branch of the military he was in. I have discovered a photo of him and believe my parents were married in Chicago prior to moving to Texas.
Thanks again for your input. Best wished, Gary

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
Gary...I received this information from my mother, who had copied it down by hand from my grandmother, Frances Glad, of Johnson City, IL, before she died back in the mid-1980s... "Then I found this little slip of paper in my handwriting, with the name of Tony Glad (deceased}, of 1056 Madison Ave. Chula Vista California who is Pa's first cousin and his sons were Eddie Glad of the same address and John Glad 704 W. Clark St., Champagne, Illinois and Joe William Glad, 1270 S. 6th Avenue, Kankakee Illinois these last three names are the 3 sons of Tony at the above address" "Pa" is my grandfather, Petar Glad, from the town of Jablan, in Croatia.
Hope this helps...if so we're somewhere around the third cousin stage, you and I.
Let me know if you find out anything.

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
My apologies for not responding sooner. I have found that I have a half-sister, sharing same mother, Mary Francis Glad who died in the early 1990's. Sister has done some tremendous research and had a lot of family information as well as some photos which have proven to be very interesting.
Thanks for taking the time to send me some of your information and wish you the best of luck in your continued research.

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
Jim, I am the granddaughter of Louis and Mary (Bozic) Glad. Louis came from Jablan, Croatia to the US about 1902. He used another family members passport to get into the US. He was in Joliet at one time. He then went to Wyandotte County, KS where he married my grandmother. They eventually moved to Girard, KS. Louis was born in 1885 and died in Girard in 1958. He never talked much about his family in Croatia. We know he had three sisters and we know he had at least one brother. He had at least one sister that lived in Joliet, IL. He called her Tonettza. My dad called her Teta like he did all of his aunts. Tonettza married Frank Burich (sp?) and they had a daugher named Rose and I think a son Frank Jr. Rose married a man by the name of Russ Seeley. Rose and Russ had a son Ron and a daugher Charlene.
This is almost all I know of my grandfather Louis and his family. Since your Petar was from Joliet, I thought maybe there might be a connection here.
Another name that comes to mind but I have no idea why is Sheppich who resided in Joliet and I think they were some relation of Louis. I also found a note in my grandmother things that had Gregor Glad written on it. I thought that might be Louis' father but I do not know that for sure.
If any of this clicks for you, let me know.

Re: Glad's from Joliet, Illinois
You mentioned a Frank Burich (sp?) married to your aunt. Do you have any additional information, such as birthdates and locations? Would I be able to find them in any of the census records? Thanks! -Susan
