I just ran across this board and wanted to introduce myself. I am the Grandson of James Glackin. He was born in Scotland of Irish parents at the turn of the century. He was the oldest of of the family. He migrated here in the 1920's or thereabouts. He and several brothers and sisters settled int he New York New Jersy area. He is still survived by 2 brothers. Thomas (Tommy) Glackin of Elizabeth NJ and Patrick (Packy) Glackin in County Donegal (Town of Mah uh ree - that is how it sounds, I do not know the spelling.) I do know that many of the Glackins in the New York City Area and related clans - Bonners for one. As to Far Rockaway Glackins, I believe these are related to my family and while I know few details, several of my relatives may know more of this since they grew up in the rockaways.
I will gladly provide more info at a later date.
Brian
FYI My clan holds a annual reunion every fathers day in Northern New Jersey.
I am also aware of a very old clan of Glackins in the Delaware/Maryland/lower Pennsylvannia Area. I believe that they date back to early settlers of the area. They also hold an annual meeting and from comments made by one of my aunts, have an ancestoral document that has been kept updated.
All the time I have for now.

Re: do you know a Donald Glackin?
Are you related to a Jimmy Glackin, son of Dawn Joann(e) and I think they tell me his Dad's name was James also or William? Dawn was my mother, she died when I was 16, I haven't seen her since I was 6 and I have never met Jimmy. Never even knew about him til a few years ago. I think after my mom died, Jimmy went to live with his paternal grandmother Mary Glackin. Supposedly they still live in the New York/Jersey area. If you know or know anyone that might be able to help me, please let me know. Thanks!
Dawn

My husbands GrandMothers maiden name was Glackin. Her first name was Berenice. Her Father was James Glackin born in Canada in 1858 married to Elizabeth Curskedan born 1861. THey moved from Canada and lived in NY then moved to Illinois. James father was born in Ireland and lived in Montreal Canada he owned a General Store in Canada. He moved to Chicago in 1869-1870 according to the Census. I have no information on when he was born. If you have any information it would be a great help.

Re: Pennsylvania Glackins
Dear Erin,
There are two booklets regarding the Glackins of the PA/MD area: John and Ann Glackin by J Paul Walker, 1954 and The Charles Glackin Clan by Dorothy Glackin, 1979. They are both about the John Glackin/Ann McCue family. They were both from County Donegal. He was born in 1760; she in 1768. If you have specific questions, I would be glad to assist.
