I also am looking for info from approx. that time frame. My great-grandmother is Catherine Glacken she married James Garland. They both came to Phila. from Ireland (Armagh)in 1878 and became naturalized in 1883. I only recently took up this search but will keep you undated. I seem to think that they came to Phila. because the Glackens were already here, because James' brother (the only other sibling I know of at this point) went to NY.

I'd guess we are connected somehow. Our KY > Missouri Glackens named one of their daughters Winnie. So the Winifred Glacken name is probably passed down. Her sister was Elizabeth H or Heppie Elizabeth. Their father was William Glacken born in KY 1853. I assume he is William Edward Glacken son of Martha Rebecca Yarnell and William Andrew Glacken b. 1826 from Boone Co KY. I 'd guess all the KY Glackens are from the same ancestor. FYI -We also have Garlands in our family. Our grGrandmother is Garland Brinkley who married Heppie Glacken's son in the Kansas City area. However, her Garland name comes from her KY gr grandmother's last name (who named her son Garland Ballard) Ballard was a pretty famous name in KY at the time of the revolution so they married well and I'd imagine the Garland surname was also an important KY family.

Thank for the information

Glacken Revision: Our William Glacken is William Andrew Glacken b. in KY Feb 1857, parents born in Virginia, and not the son of William and Martha Rebecca Yarnell Glacken of KY. Still looking for our Wm's father.

Hi! Sorry this reply is several years since your post, but I just stumbled upon it. Here is some information that may help you.
Charles Glacken, born 1833 in Ireland, entered Philadelphia July 9, 1961, aged 28 years. (I have a copy of his intent for citizenship). He was probably from County Donegal, Ireland.
Volunteered to serve in Union Army July 9, 1861. He was enrolled on December 8, 1863. He served as a private with Company 1, 29th Infantry Division. His name is on a plaque in a museum in Gettysburg that I have seen.
He had one son, Frank, who married Rose Finnegan. In 1900 they moved to Portage, PA and in 1906 they moved to South Fork, PA. They are buried in Prospect Cemetary, Portage, PA.
They had ten children: John, Nellie, Frank, Harry, Kate, James, William, Charles, Roseanna, and David.
Harry was my grandfather.
The information I have supplied is from an awesome book produced by my Aunt. Please email me if I can get you any more information.
Happy Holidays! Becky

I just saw this post and it is 2013! Hope you are still around. When I saw CLARA GLACKEN I almost jumped. I just went to a family funeral, and found out that my great grandmother, was raised as CLARA GLACKEN in Penna. She became my great grandmother when she married James Spangenberg. They raised their family of four I believe, on Saxer Avenue in Springfield, Delaware County, PA. Now if I could only find one image of CLARA GLACKEN SPANGENBERG.....
