Nicholas Glab, born 1857 in Dubuque, Iowa, was the son of Adam Glab. Adam was one of three brothers who emigrated to Dubuque from Germany in the 1850s; they also brought over their parents, Cristoph and Elizabeth (Jager) Glab.

The two brothers of Adam Glab were John Glab (who was mayor of Dubuque 1885-86) and Frank Glab, my great-grandfather. Nicholas was a partner with his brothers in the Glab Brewery in Dubuque, founded by his father.

They originally came from Jugesheim, a village that today is part of the town of Rodgau, a suburb of Frankfurt.

If you want to know more about Nicholas or the other Glabs in Dubuque, let me know.-Jim Glab -- jimglab@aol.com

Dear Jim,

My GGG Grandparents are Christopher Glab and Elizabeth Ellwanger. I have been wondering if this is the same Elizabeth & Christopher and maybe she was married twice with Ellwanger being her first married name. They had a daughter Agatha who is my GG Grandmother. I woyuld appreciate it if you could let me know if you have any information for me on this.

Hi Mary,
You posted a message in response to a query, but I believe you meant to respond to Jim Glab who is directly related to the Glab's of Dubuque and Illinois.
My relationship to the Glab's is through a marriage between my Duncan family, and I have not really researched the Glab side, sorry. Try Jim though, he may be able to help you out.
Good luck Mary : ) Sincerely, Kathy Duncan Cawley

My GGG Grandparents are Christoph Glab and Elizabeth Ellwanger. I believe she may have been married before and Ellwanger might be her married name. Can't find her information. Was wondering if you might have any information on them. They had a daughter Agatha who married Nicholas Arensdorff and after his death by accident, John Conrad. I don't have any other sibling but I believe there were several. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank,
Mary Rulison

Mary, I'm confused. The information I have indicates that the wife of Christoph (Christopher) Glab was Elizabeth Jaeger; they were both from Jugesheim, Germany (near Frankfurt) and came to the Dubuque area in 1854. They did have a daughter named Agatha (who was married to Nick Arensdorf and then John Conrad, as you said), as well as one named Elizabeth and three sons (John, Adam, Franz (Frank)).
But Elizabeth Jaeger Glab had a sister named Agatha Jaeger, who married Peter Ellwanger. They also came to Dubuque around the same time, and lived near Sherrill. I don't know where the Elizabeth Ellwanger comes from.

sorry, no. I am indirectly related to William N. Glab, son of Nicholas & Mary Glab.
William N. married Adelaide Duncan, cousin to my gg-grandfather.
Thanks for the offer though : )
