Joseph Glab/Glaub, b. 1830 in Bavaria
Hello,
My ancestor Joseph Glaub (spelled Glab before he emmigrated) came to the U.S. in the early 1850's or late 1840's (probably 1852). I'm trying to establish who his parents and siblings were. I'm certain he had brothers who kept the Glab spelling and passed down the name Joseph too, as his father and grandfather were likely named Joseph, from what I've gathered so far.

Christopher Glab - Dubuque IA
My name is Mary Rulison. I have my ggg grandfather Christopher in my line. He was married to Elizabeth Ellwanger in St.Mary's Church Dubuque IA. He has one daughter that I know of. She is Agatha Glab who married Nicholas Arnsdorf. He is buried in Sherrill IA. I am looking for information on him, his parents and his siblings.

Mary,
It more than likely is that Christopher Glab was a near relation of my 4-great grandfather Joseph Glab (born in 1830). The Glab line is definitely from the area of Bavaria around the city of Ashaffenburg (Kleinostheim, Schimborn, Krombach, Mombris, etc.).
Once that area of Bavaria makes its records available on microfilm this July or August, I will be able to look into it. In the meantime, I'm going to go to the Federal Records bldg. in Chicago to get Joseph's immigration papers. If you e-mail me directly, I'll send you a document that explains the Glab family history in Bavaria back to the absolute beginning (1401).
Keep in touch, so that if I establish a connection we can share descendency charts.

Mary, I e-mailed you the other day with an attachment explaining the Glab roots in the Aschaffenburg area (where the Glab/Glaab family originated). I guestimate that there were several hundred Glabs and Glaabs (see document regarding spellings) in that area of Bavaria (near Belguim and France, I think) in the early 1800's. It's in the Rhineland/Mainz river area. Microfilm will simplify things. I'm going to call the Mormon Library in Salt Lake City to see if they will acquire a copy of the microfilm.

Yvonne, the Glaabs did settle in Pennsylvania before spreading to other places like Arkansas, St. Louis, Indiana and Wisconsin. Many changed the spelling to Glaub, though. I have a document regarding the Glaab family in Bavaria, where all Glaabs and Glabs originate from. Let me know if you want me to e-mail the document to you.
P.S. It helps to use the Glaub and Glab spellings when searching for Glaab family trees. The Rosenbergers, who married many Glaabs, have written some good books about the history also.

Hello, my name is Amanda. I'm researching my family history, which includes the Glaab family line. Actually, my grandmother was Jane Ireane Glaab. She and her family have been residents of western Pennsylvania for as long as I can remember. However, the information I have on them is limited. She has traced her lineage back a couple of generations. But, I don't know how they connect to other Glaabs. She didn't put any siblings, just the parents names. I don't know if I could help you at all, but I would be willing to try.

We are a family of Glaab's from Canada. We settled in the area of Stratford, and St. Mary's. My aunt Nancy Sigl compiled an extensive look into our ancenstry, also. Christine Pauli (nee Glaab) Apparently, all the Glaab's are related.
