Hi Patricia,

My name is Jacki Goodwin (nee Daley), my mum is Marie Gizzi
(called Mamie) we live in Wellington New Zealand. Dominick Gizzi was my grandfather born in Glasgow, lived in New Zealand since about 1960. I can remember mum and my aunties talking about family in California and I think some of your family visited here years ago. I would love to find out about this part of my family. Please feel free to email me at jackiscurtains@xtra.co.nz

Hi Jacki

Do you have an Aunt called Meg who lives in Australia - daughter of Agnes and Michele? If so we are related and I know your family line back a long, long way!

Hi Patricia and Jacki

Patricia - I hope you see this - it is ten years since you posted! I have been looking at my records and know this line of Gizzis back to a couple who married in 1610.

Vincent and Dominic were the children of Michele Gizzi, (born Picinisco, Italy 28 Sep 1868, and died Glasgow, Scotland 12 Aug 1922), and his wife Marie Annie Decoir (aka Decorier), born London, England c1875. They married 22 Sep 1891 at St Andrews Cathedral, Great Clyde St, Glasgow, Scotland.

The children I have for them so far are Alexander born c1893 Beith, Ayrshire, Mary c1897, Anna c1900, Dominic 18 Aug 1901, Gaetana c1906, Pasqua c1912 (all born Glasgow) and Vincent c1917 - but I don't know his birthplace.

I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that Alexander married Violet Evans. Anna may have married someone by the surname of Estero. I think her second husband was Ronald Cameron. Dominic married Agnes Connley.

Marie Annie Decoir/Decorier appears under a rainbow variety of different surnames on various censuses. She appears to be the daughter of Charles Decorier (Born Genoa c1838)and Annie Smith (born c1851, Clerkenwell, London)

Michele was the son of Giuseppe Vincenzo Gizzi (b 17 May 1836, Picinisco, died 1905 Glasgow), and Pasqua Valente (b 31 Mar 1839, Picinisco, died 1911 Glasgow). They married 25 Oct 1862 in Picinisco.

I have loads more info. I hope this is of interest.

Jackie & Marisa!
This is exciting! I married into this family! My Mother in laws maiden name is Ruth Gizzi. She is the oldest child of Vincent Gizzi. Vincenzo is the 11th child of the Gizzis from Italy and Scotland. Vincent is still alive. Though he may not be with us much longer. He is fine just 90! And his dear sweetheart has had alziemers too long. He has told us there is family in Uk, New Zealand and such. We have pictures of his sister (pasquelle?) (named change) Esther. Would love to here from you. Patricia is my husbands uncles, wife. Wow! Let me know!

Maybe he is 93, I don't ask directly!

He was raised by his older sisters as his parents died when

he was young. He came to the states later in life. His

sister Pasque? (Esther renamed) married a man named Elmer

Leonard. They lived in Yountville, California but never

had children. Vincent has 5 children. I have tried to get

him to write down what he knows but the book we sent him

was misspalced by them.

Hi Snowmoon

Pleased to 'meet' you. It is exciting isn't it! The Gizzi family are certainly spread around the world. I have a few different connections on my tree into the Gizzi family. My main link is through my great great great grandmother Serafina Carmina Gizzi born 1841, who according to my computer is Vincent's third cousin twice removed. (I'm glad the computer worked that out because I think I would have struggled!) I also have an interest in Vincent's father Michele due to an incident which was very well hushed up in my family. A skeleton in our closet!! Does Vincent recall his father ever having mentioned being stabbed in the leg at a wedding in Glasgow in 1890? If so I know who the perpetrator was - his cousin Loreto (Serafina's son) who was my great great grandmother's older brother. I found Loreto on a census in 1901. The secret had been so well hidden by the family that my grandmother thought her grandmother had been an only child. I have lots of the court papers and newspaper reports from the time.

The Gizzi's were from a small town called Picinisco. A wonderful gentleman by the name of Michel Vacca of Belgium has been putting together the genealogy of the town and he is very generous with his data. Through him I have details of this line back to the start of the 1600s. The website is here http://www.picinisco.net/index.php Its defintiely worth a visit and you can post there too.

Anything I can help with just ask. Its great to have amassed all of this data and to be able to share it with someone who understands the excitement!

Hello Marisa,
Whilst working on my cousin's family tree I found her aunt (maiden name GUNNING) married to a Frederick GIZZI b.1903 (perhaps proper name Ferdinando) and he was the son of Michele GIZZI and Maria DECOIR.
I know a Mario GIZZI (not well, met about half a dozen times) and my curiosity got the better of me, thinking they must be related and set off to find the link.
I followed pretty much the same path as you and traced Frederick's line back to Loreto GIZZI and Maria Giuseppe CASCARINI and I'm stuck there.
I know Loreto is a descendant of Domenico GIZZI (don't know spouse), son Benedetto GIZZI married to Genua Di PLACIDO, but have not found the connection.
I don't know Mario's parents names (I have suspects) and now think that Mario is your brother, and if that is correct I hope you don't mind letting me know your parents names.
I have a record of every Scots born GIZZI (plus GIZZE and GIZZIE - frustrating), but most are just pieces of my jigsaw not yet in place (171 persons).
Any help you can offer would be most appreciated, and you are welcome to as much of my data as you would like.
