I am looking for information on the Given surname. My father's name was Thomas Eugene Given. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on April 18, 1921. His father's name was Thomas H. Given and his mother's name was Mildred McMickle. They both lived most of their lives and died in Ottumwa, Iowa. I don't know where he (Thomas H. Given) was born or who his parents were. If you have any information, please e-mail me. Thanks.

Bill,

I tried to email you, but your mail system does not seem to like mine.

I was interested in seeing if your family might tie into mine. I have traced my Given family to John Given (b. Nov 1839, immigrated about 1855 from Ireland). He married Anna. They lived in Philadelphia from then on, with one bried stint in Iowa. Except for his attempt to farm in Iowa, he seems to have been employed as a shoemaker. They had five children before she died. He remarried, and had one more son.

I'd be interested in comparing notes.

Surnames: Given
My grandfather James b 1855, ggrandfather Moses b 1825, Patrick about 1820, Robert about 20 to 25 years before Patrick. Others we think are in our line are Joseph 1837, Albert 1845. We believe all came fron County Donegal. Moses and Patrick did not come to US.

You didn't mention any names or dates. Do these names and dates ring any bells?

My Given family tree comes from Ayrshire to Cullybackey, in Co. Antrim, Ireland. Several of them immigrated to Philadelphia in the mid to late 1800s. Be glad to swap info.

Hello,

My Given ancestors immigrated to Philadelphia in the mid-1800s. I was wondering if they might be related. I have traced back to John and Lydia Given (brother and sister). They were in Philadelphia by 1860. I have not yet located their actual immigration information. Lydia was born in March 1838 and John in November 1839.

Let me know if there is any connection, I would be interested in comparing notes.

Surnames: Given, Givens
My family is as follows:

John Given b. c.1783 Cullybackey, Co. Antrim, Ireland
James Given b. c. 1807 Cullybackey, Co. Antrim, Ireland
Patrick b. 1837, Marcus b. 1844, Samuel Fee b. 1845, Thomas b. 1850 (my g g grandfather) plus three other brothers who emigrated to Philadelphia (I believe I have their addresses from 1900), their names, I believe are William J, Robert and James Givens. Marcus emmigrated in 1864 and died in 1870 of consumption. He is buried in Mount Peace Cemetery, Philadelphia. The three emigrants were linked with a John Dornan of Monitor Carpet Mills in Kensington, Philadelphia who produced a carpet for the Masonic Hall in Cullybackey some time between 1878 and 1900.
