We are attempting to document genealogy of our ancestors who came to La. in the late 1700s or the early 1800's from Austria, Marco Givanovich and Antoine Marinovich. We would appreciate any feedback available, especially living relatives, history etc.

A Marco Givanovich was my great grandfather's brother. He emigrated from Dubrovnik (Ragusa) in the early 1800s. All I know is that he died unmarried in about 1895, leaving a colossal fortune to his brother, my great grandfather, Nikola, after whom I am named, who still lived in Dubrovnik. The spelling of my name is different as the alphabet has changed, so Dj is the old G. Could this be same person?

I am not sure about the family ancestry. I am the only grandson of Amerigo, born 1896, died 1980, 4th or 5th son of Nikola. Goes like this : Nikola-Amerigo-Milivoj-Me. He was named Amerigo in honour of Marco, who died that year and left his estate to Nikola. I know that I have some cousins in Dubrovnik, but have not seen them since the 80s. Mozes da mi odgovoris direktno na email.

Yes Antoine Marinovich and Marco Givano were both from Austria but they were actually Croatians. Go to Google and type in Marco Givanovich. The time when they migrated from Croatia was when it was under Austrian rule so therefore many Croatians dont know they are Croatian. They were from Ragusa, Austria but now called Dubrovnik, Croatia. Antoine Marinovich is my great great great grandpa and Marco Givanovich is my great great great great grandpa.

Hi Anthony

This Cornell Celestine, did you find the information that you were looking for on the Rachal's. I didn't get any feedback from you or Donald . I see that you are also looking for the Ancestry of Givanovich Marinovich. A lady name Kathleen Balthazar, did a book on the the descendants of Cane River, called Cane River Genealogy. She was most helpful to me with my reseach, most of her info is church documented records. On page 46 she has a Marie Antoinette (aunt Tut) Marinovich born July 1867 married Matthew Jones. I know Kathleen could probably help you. Her website is http://member.aol.com/CaneR71456/INDEX.HTM. E-mail address is NY5Kmagi@aol.com. She also put out a newspaper tell you what going on on the River.
