HI Gwen:

I just saw you message. My husband grandfather Michele Pezzullo from S. Angelo, D'Alfe, prov. of Caserta, Italy. His father was Vincenzo and Mother was Antonia (Giugno) Pezzullo. Michele married Rosa Rega in 1897 in Providence, RI, Federal Hill Church, that is where I just found the name of Michele mother. I think Michele, was born about 1873 over there. Now Antonia Giugno, may have been born, some other place in Italy. She would be born about,1853-1858.Just a guess.Let me know if this, may be anything.

My Grandmother used this name, Marcellina Giugno, twice coming over from Mistretta, Sicily. Her married name was Rosalia Pettineo. On the ship manifest, she had put that she was coming over to be with her husband Giuseppe Pettineo with her three children. Now her maiden name was Nasca. My grandmother had been adopted and raised in an orphanage for some time. I was told that she went to work as a cook for some family in Italy. I heard that she also had a grocery store around 1905-1910. This is such a puzzle. She made two trips to USA, in 1906 and 1910, which was permanent. She never learned to speak English, so I never got to find out much about her. Why would she use a different name to come on the ship? If anyone is familiar with this name, I would appreciate any information. They lived in the town of Mistretta, Sicily.

Her age was 37 on the ship manifest in 1910, which means she was probably born in 1873. My grandfather, Mr. Pettineo's Mother died when he was a small child and his father remarried and he had two half sisters.

Thank you for any information.

Surnames: Giugno
Hello Rosalie,

Sorry it took so long to answer you. Ancestry was working on their message boards. I got scared when I saw I had to register. I thought it would cost me something. I finally registered and I'm hoping it won't cost. I am not aware of the name Marcellina Giugno. I checked my map of Sicily I didn't find Mistretta. Where is it? My Giugno's are from Caltanisetta.

Please write back.

Hi: I don't remember if I sent you an e-mail about Marcelina Giugno. I just happened to look and saw your post. Mistretta, Sicily is in Messina (hope I spelled it right). Now, I don't know if my grandmother was really a Giugno. I know she was adopted as a child, then given to another family. Her name, before marriage was supposed to be Rosalia Nosca. I have recently talked to my cousin who told me she worked for a wealthy family and she was a cook for the family. I can't understand why she used the name two times to come to the US. Her marriage name was Rosalia Pettineo. I hope maybe someone could help me solve this puzzle. Best Regards, Rosalie

Hello Rosalie,
Sorry I don't have any info to help you. My Giungo's are from Town of Caltanisetta and all the info I have is their names: Cologera Guigno parents Michael Guigno & Michela Guarnera.

My only suggestion is checking the records the LDS church has microfilmed from Italy. You might find something on them. If you have questions how to access those records e-mail me back. Good Luck in your research.
