Our last name was Giuca. Not many relations here in the USA...so if this is your last name or was...get in touch with me. My mother and father were Lucia and Frank Giuca.

Possible relative

Dear Jeanne,
My mother's maiden name is Giuca. Her father was from Catania, Sicily. His family was originally from Licodea Eubea, but also had homes and businesses in Siracusa, Sicily. Her father's name was Francesco Giuca. He was born in about 1898 and died in about 1979. He moved to NY in the 1920s, met and married my grandmother, Rose Miceli in about 1925, and had 2 children with her. In 1945 he divorced my grandmother, moved back to Sicily and married another much younger woman, Serafina. They had 2 girls, Licia (who is now 44) and Linda (now 41); both are married and living in Italy. Please write back and let me know if you have been successful in your search.

Hi Rosette,
All the localites match...My father's name was Francisco Giuca and born in 1896 and died in 1970 in NY...so this can be a cousin? He also came to New York in 1920 but he stayed married to my mother until he died.
My father did not speak English too well, so all I could piece together was ... his father remarried when he was about 12/13 years old. He had a half brother who eventually came to live in the same area as we did.
If you wish to continue this...please contact me at my email address: Obiemom13@aol.com

My wife's maiden name was Giuca. Her parents were
from Modica in Ragusa, came here in 1937, lived on first avenue in manhattan
and subsequently moved to queens. They were Grace and Salvatore
Giuca. Do these names or locations ring a bell?

I'm never sure who is related to me. I'm of Italian descent. My parents were from Catania, Sicily. But stranger things have happened before. When they came over to the United States they migrated to New York City. And that's where they stayed until their death.

Yes, our last names are not common...so keep in touch.

I have done some research and found out that the town of Licodeo Eubea, near Vizzini, seems to be the home of most of the Giucas in the United States (at least ancestrally) but i don't know if you are related to us.
let me know

I'm not sure if we are related. I don't know much about my parents past. They only spoke Italian and I spoke English. So it was difficult. This is one of the reasons I'm wondering if I have any relations out there that I am unaware of.

Since all these relatives still lived in Italy, I never got to meet any of them. My father would never go back to visit.

My father (Francisco Giuca) came to America in the early 20's. He lived and worked in New York (Manhattan) for five years and went back to Italy to bring my mother and brother back with them.

My father's father was remarried when my father was quite young. So he said 'he didn't live at home'. Never did say where he lived. My father passed away in 1970.

My mother's maiden name was Scacco.

Any information you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jeanne

Thanks for the info.
My father in law was Salvatore Giuca (d.1999). He came from Modica, Ragusa, Sicily. Mother in law's maiden name was Guccione. He came here in 1922, eventually opened a butcher shop on first avenue near 10th street, which operated at a couple of addresses near there till 1970 or so.
don't know of any francisco giuca.
the giucas from licodeo eubea (a village near Vizzini) seemed to have moved to australia (south australia is full of giucas). however there is a licodeo eubea society on 86th street near 23rd avenue in bensonhurst brooklyn, if that helps
