If anyone is researching the GITLIN surname please get in touch. The Gitlin family I am researching comes from the Minsk area and came to Detroit, Michigan in the early 1900s. I am told that there were four brothers who came to Detroit. One branch of the family moved to Windsor, Ontario.

Hi, I can't tell from your screen name if we have been in touch before but I am researching Morris Gitlin of Windsor and Detroit who was previously a bookbinder in Lyakhovichi and a leader of his Hasidic community. he served as rabbi in Windsor Ontario before moving permanently to the US. He had around six or seven children most of whom immigrated with his wife in 1906. I am the webmaster of the Lyakhovichi shtetl website at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/lyakhovichi/lyakhovichi.... and am updating the site in the next few weeks but even now there is a photo of Morris Gitlin on our FaceIndex (copyrighted name). - Deborah Glassman, Lyakhovichi webmaster

I am from the Detroit area and my Grandmother was a Gitlin before she got married. I believe my Gitlin family is from Minsk (or it might have been Pinsk).
