Anyone as surprised as I was to learn there is no such group despite the fact that Girard is the 12th(don't quote me now!) largest family in Québec. Is it fair to say that most of us are descendants of either Joachim or Pierre Girard? Has a definitive document been created to identify the two distinct lineages? Any ideas anybody?

I have not seen anything. I trace my Girard roots to Guillaume Girard m. Adrienne Lecompte in France. They migrated to Canada before 1726.

bonjour,

I have not done a check recently, but I am not aware of a substantial family history for either of those ancestors. There are publications of genealogies published that I will check for you.

My mother being a descendant of Joachim, I intend to write a family history starting next Fall once I get the update to the Matteau family genealogy completed. I have done a certain amount data collection but I will have to capture the data for all Girard to make sure that I have all the ones descending from Joachim. I have two generations beyong Joachim Sr. I will have to buy a portable computer to capture the data from computerized databases and Drouin's marriage repertory at my Gen. Society.

By the way, I have a contact in Northern Ontario who has a large database on the Girard of Joachim and who should be close to publishing his work. We have exchanged databases a year ago. He had a good number of corrections to make. Data were on BK6. I have not heard from him for about a year.

Hi Doreen!
I think there are more Girards than we know! I hail from another branch-the Marin Girard line. Ir seems a shame no one has mobilized to get one under way. Apparently there is not one in North America, but I wonder about France and Switzerland...

Salut Jean-Marie!
I am just on the other side of the river! Small world!
I am pretty certain I have 90% of the Joachim line. I am still sorting through folks in New England. Our ancestors re-married a great deal did they not?!
I was perusing the Tanguay the other day, and I noticed there were more Girard pioneers than I thought. I knew about Pierre but there is an Etienne and at least two or three others! Surprise! I will look at it again-this time more carefully.
I can access the Drouin at the OPL-which is wonderful.

Believe it or not, my brick wall is my own grandfather!
I am descended from the one of the Clifton crowd. I would love to write a book about them. But I need to visit to get more background.
Who do you belong to?!
Let's compare notes sometime!
Nathalie

Nathalie,

In my Girard line, I have Pierre-Jacques Girard, who married Francois Gratiot, in Repentgny in 1681. My notes stated he was one of the first to Canada. Pierre was son of Rene Girard and Marie Bosnard in France. My line starts from Vitaline Girard, m. 1874 Joseph Audet in St. Valentine. They went to Connecticut about 1888 with the complete family. Very few descendants from this line. Alicia

Good morning - Yes, looking at my sheet, you certainly did send me the Girard family outline. Do you have any info on Vitaline Girard? She is my ggrandmother. I have very little info on her, other than what you have sent. I would appreciate anything about her. Thank you Alicia
