Hello,

My father's grandmother was Mary Girard, born in Swanton, Vt. in 1842 Her father was Joseph Girard, born In 1815, and mother Priscilla Pineault, born I 1820 and who died in 1892 in Fairfield, Vt. Her mother was Ursule Cloutier who may have died in Highgate, Fairfield. in 1860.

My great grandmother, Mary Girard, married in Highgate in 1860 to John Blair. One of their children, Emma Jane Blair, was my paternal grandmother, who married Henry Millette in Massachusetts (Uxbridge), at a Baptist Church. I have been unable to determine whether my father was initially raised Baptist.

I was told that Mary Girard was "American Indian" and French.

Would love any additional information. I only found Mary Girard as issue from Joseph Girard and Prisicilla Pineault. Would be very interested if there had been other children.

Thank you.

Hi:

Getting somewhere.

on the basis that Priscilla Pineault's mother was Ursule Cloutier, I have discovered that there was a Ursule Cloutier married to Guillaume Pedneau (Pedneault) in 1811 in La Malbaie (Pointe-au-PIc). So, Priscilla would be a Pedneau (also written as Pedneault) instead of a Pineau although the two patronymes exist in Québec.

THis makes sense given that Priscilla, born about 1838 got married in 1860.

I have found birth and baptism records for three children of this couple, but none married in Québec for Guillaume and Ursule; this would indicate a case of emigration to me.

If this is the family you are researching, it is possible to go back further. Given the place of marriage of Guillaume and Ursule, this would indicate to me that they are descendants of Pierre Girard and Suzanne De La Voye instead of Joachim Girard.
