Hi I'm interested in knowing any information regarding the
Gioia / D'Amico / Micone family names from San Massimo, Campobasso, Italy.

Many family members migrated to Canada and the USA.
Most of the Gioia's are in Toronto and Montreal.

The D'Amico famlily is in Worchester MA. as well as Toronto , Ontario Canada.

I understand that a Gioia in the early 1900's may have left his family in San Massimo, went over to British Columbia to work for a bit and eventually went to Montana to settle down with a new US family (Native American's).

Any information would be welcomed .. John Gioia

We live in Buffalo, NY. My husband's grandparent came over in 1912 to 1915 (Samuel Gioia and his wife Santa Piselle? Gioia) with 6 of their 7 children, my mohter-in-law was born here but died in 1968 so we have no records for the family. -Liz

Hi John!
Found your message while surfing. I am a D'amico from Calgary, Alberta. My mother was a Tortorelli and my father was a D'Amico, both born in San Massimo. I have Gioias in my family tree. If you are interested in talking please do so. Although the Gioia family married into both D'Amico and Tortorelli often I also have them marrying into Farrace, Grosso, Selvaggi, D'Andrea, Micone to mention a few..all San Massimo residents.

Hello. I just this morning started San Massimo reserach for the MICONE family that came to the USA ca. 1885. Guiseppe and his brother Toney Micone. Gueseppe (Joseph) was born Feb. 1860. He married Elizabeth MAGYAR ca. 1884--they traveled together as husband and wife. The name eventually evolved in censuses to Mecone. They settled in Snow Shoe, Centre Co., PA and reared a family of 10 cildren there. Joe died April 1920, his wie died 1937 in Lycoming Co., PA.
A widow named his mother lived with Toney Mecone in 1910. She was Savilla or Gavilla Mecone. I would very much like to know who her husband was. If the boys were born in San Massimo, then surely their parents were married there and possibly the father died and is buried there. I've not found him (or any of them) on a 1900 USA census. I have the USA family, but do need something more from San Massimo.
I saw online that 8 (families? individuals?) with the surname Micone still live in San Massimo and it is a small village of 736 people.
