re Gimbert in Sutton, Cambs, England
For anyone out there that is interested, I have a number of certificates and some information about this family. My connection is via Cornelius 1828-1872 who had a brother named Ephraim who emmigrated. The ancestors of Cornelius are also those of John 1805 who wed Sarah Turgoose in 1824 who also emmigrated to USA. I am currently loading my tree onto Ancestry so it is not yet complete. Do get in contact please!

Re: Gimbert in Sutton, Cambs, England
SO sorry I must have been thinking of the sister of Cornelius who was much younger and she was named Sarah Smith Gimbert. His mother was Mary Smith but her mother was Sarah Smith. You can see why I made that error. I sent for his sisters birth certificate a couple of years ago but cannot find it. I have recently moved house and everything is mixed up and mislaid!
Do get back to me again. I cannot wait to find out which line you belong to.

Re: Gimbert in Sutton, Cambs, England
I must admit I am a bit confused. I've spent the afternoon going over the information I've got. There was a John Gimbert who married Mary Smith in December 1820 and a John Gimbert who married a Sarah Turgoose in 1824. Cornelius is mentioned in the 1841 census as son of John and Mary, but in his baptism it says son of John and Sarah. My direct ancestor was Ephraim who emigrated to Australia his grandson was Robert Gimbert and my grandfather. Robert came to England for the first world war and had 5 children. He and my grandmother and 3 of the children, my Aunties, went back to Australia in the forties. My dad and his brother stayed behind. My maiden name was Gimbert but the name has now died out of our line as the children of the 2 brothers were girls

Re: re Gimbert in Sutton, Cambs, England
I believe my GGGrandfather Prior was John and Sarah Turgoose Gimbert's son! Prior's is buried not far from my home here in Norfolk, VA, USA!

Re: Gimbert in Sutton, Cambs, England
Hi. My name is Michelle Sanwell, my grandma is Jean Lightfoot (formally Gimbert) from sutton, daughter of Daisy and Claude Gimbert. My grandma is still alive, but very poorly and I would like to know more about my family. I have loads of old pictures of family members passed down to me, pictures from the war and old letters from claude to daisy - they are really wonderful. I hope to hear from you, Michelle x
