It's very likely that my family are related to this group of Gimberts. I traced my family back to 1847 in Kidsgrove North Staffs, but on the census Mr William Gimbert is noted as coming from amongst other places Dilhorne and Cheadle, all very close to Checkley. I dont think he is of the right age to be the William Gimbert on your list but its possible.

Hi, Yes our Gimberts could easily be related, I saw the census report of your William, most of the Gimberts I have are prior to the date your William was born, but if I can key him in after finding a few more marraiges & births i will let you know. Kind Regards Sheena

Hello: I am working on some GIMBERTs that we found buried in the woods behind our office building in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I have pieced together the following:
[GRAVE 1??] Frederick Gimbert?? (b.? - d. 16 Feb 1887) - md?? Tie in not known - timing argues to son of Benjamin/Virginia
1 - John GIMBERT b: 10 Aug 1805 d: 3/9? Nov 1853 md Sarah TURGOOSE b: 20 Oct 1805 - d 1878 Prior and Benjamin's mother Sarah (Turgoose) GIMBERT was the instigator in the family's emigration to America from Sutton/Ely, Cambridgeshire. She sent her husband, (their father) out to America looking for work, to save enough to bring the family over. He returned, she sent him back, he returned again, she sent him back again ... but he died of cholerea at sea on this 3rd trip, 3 Nov 1853 (so, close to the dates you have.). Somehow or other the family raised enough money so that Prior and Benjamin could come out along with some other siblings, in the years between 1853 and 1865, landing in New York or Boston. Sarah herself emigrated in 1865, and eventually stayed with Benjamin in Princess Anne Co. until her death in 1878. 1 - [GRAVE 3] Benjamin GIMBERT - b. 3 may 1839 in Sutton Isle of Ealy England - d. 1 May 1890 in Virginia?) - md [GRAVE 4] Virginia A Fentress b 1844 - d 1906/08??) in 1875 in Virginia. [Her Father: Lancaster Fentress b: 1805 in Virginia;her mother Diana Munden b: 1809 in Virginia Parents md 22 Mar 1834.] They are both buried in woods behind AMSEC LLC Park West Office Building, 2877 Guardian Lane, Virginia Beach Virginia 23452; 1 - [GRAVE 2] George F Gimbert (b.March 18, 1877 - d. November 03, 1893 in Virginia) age 16 2 - Benjamin Pryor GIMBERT b: 7 Feb 1879 d: 12 Nov 1929 md Grace Goldie BLITZ b: 20 May 1881 d: 12 Nov 1929 [Prior killed (shot) his wife Goldie and then himself one day after an argument. They had 5 children, one named Frederick (Freddie) but I have no dates. notes from Jill] 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - "5 - Raymond Agustus GIMBERT b: 25 Jul 1911 d: 13 Dec 1985 - md Mercedes Maria Treresa COSTELLO (b.28 Jun 1928 in New York City - d. 26 May 1998 in Sentara Hospital Virginia Beach VIRGINIA) 3 - Florence 4 - Oscar B. 2 - Pryor/Prior Gimbert (1844 - 1906) married in Poughkeepsie, NY (1865) to Emily Frances DINGEE (1845-1927); they had 11 children & lived in Lynn Haven, VA 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 3 - John Gimbert (b? - d?) - md Rebecca FARBY. They had sons named Bejamin and Pryor, to 1 - Benjamin 2 - Prior

Hi John, Sorry all my Gimberts came from Staffordshire, but thier is a Family group of Gimberts from Sutton, like you mention. Im sure there is other messages on this site reffering to them, and if you go to www.rootsweb.com, I think there is actually family trees there, with these Gimberts. Regards Sheena

This is the missing link that I have been looking for since my father, Charles Richard Gimbert passed away back in 2003. I knew that my Grandfather was Benjamin, but could not find anything before him. You have determined that My Great Grandfather was John Gimbert!!!!!

Glad I found a link for you. There are some living relatives in the area and some others that I have been conversing with over email in other areas of the country. Also, this burial plot is not recorded in the library compiled books of Princess Anne County family grave sites. Will be looking to add it...

Apparantly I have misspoke. My GGrandfather was Benjamin Pryor Gimbert. Apparently the one that had issues with a shotgun in 1929.

Thanks for the clarification...seems they used those names alot then...hard to keep track...One of the things I am trying to do is determine where the original house or buildings were and if present Guardian Lane was the original lane to the house from Lynnhaven Road. Also,did they had a boat landing at the London Bridge Creek that borders the property. I also have located an old rose garden in the woods, that is a hint to the above question.
Additionally, the burial plot has GIMBERTs and EWELLs, but I can find no link between the families. This hints that there may have been two houses in proximity?? The oldest information the property developers used was a 1937 aerial photo that apparently did not show any houses, just "forest land". I am going to try to view the photo soon...to look closely. There is remains of a shed of some kind in the woods too.
If you have any relatives that may have visited the property in their youth and remember anything, or have any written documentation about the property, any information would be appreciated.

My Grandfather Benjamin Pryor Gimbert, at one point was in Maine and married my Grandmother. We all grew up in New England. I have not had the opportunity to meet any of my Virginia relations. Thus the Virginia Gimberts remain an enigma to me. To reiterate, my Great Grandfather was the Benjamin Pryor who had issues with a shotgun in 1929. I have learned that his Pryor and then John. No information after that.
