Hi, my ~GGG grandmother was Rebecca Willis Gimbert who went to Ontario in 1887. She travelled from Devon to London to Canada! Which of her children were you directly related to?I have found most histories, except for Arthur who I believe perished in France in 1917.

Hi Debra, my gg grandmother was Rebecca Willis, wife of Thomas William Gimbert, who emigrated to Canada with her family after her husband died of consumption. They all lived in Toronto and immediate area. However William Thomas left to go to the States. He lived in De Moines Iowa. My research shows that Prior born in 1863 in Sutton son of John and Rebecca left to go to USAwith his family. This branch of Gimberts are all related to the Gimberts in Eastern England. They apparently came over from Europe in 1600 as Hugenots escaping persecution. They all had a desire to go to lands of opportunity and can be found in Canada, America, Australia and South Africa. Very brave folk. Hope there may be some info there that is new for you. All the best, Evie
Ps Have lots more if you need.

I certainly am. My particular interest is in the Canadian branch, but I do know that William Gimbert went into the States. If any Gimberts were based in Iowa in the early 1900 that may have been a reason for him going there. I also believe that Rebecca Gimbert nee Willis his mother went to him after retiring from the Postal Service in Toronto. Cannot find details of what happened to her. She was my great grandmother. Would love to know more. Thank you Evie
