Hi I thought you might like to know that I found a Gimbert in 1688. I found this info on the general record office web site using thier catalogue search. I put in the surname and it came up with 14 interesting hits. It describes a Richard Gimbert who was a merchant taylor of London as he tries to lease a building owned by the Earl of Warwick.
Details are as follows.
Piece E 214/797
Parties; Edward, Earl of Warwick and Holland, an infant, and Anne, countess of Warwick and Holland, his mother and guardian. Richard Gimbert, citizen and merchant taylor of London.
Place or subject; Lease of a new-built messuage in Long Lane in the parish of Great St Bartholemew London, seven years, 121pa London
18th May 1688

Just wanted you to know that this was a very interesting piece of information. It seems the Gimberts were not just country labourers, but landowners and business people!They certainly had a great work ethic that took the generations all over the world!
