Noticed the Gimber name on this website. I'm Richard Gimber, Phil's son. My brother Phil Jr. is now a nurse and my sister Elizabeth is about to have her second child (a boy) any day.

Sometimes I get phone calls (as my # is listed) from people looking for information about the name Gimber as well as George Gimber. From now on I'll refer them to this website.

I also have a small family tree list if anyone is interested in it, please let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

Best regards, Rich

Richard,

If the family I am researching is the same family yours then your father's (Phil's) parents were Florence (Bradley) Gimber Charleton and Charles Gimber. I have been in contact with Barbara Kuty and we have exchanged much information. She is mostly concerned with the Gimber line (as that is the one I (we?) share with her. I have info on the Bradley line and have already received information on the ancestor who fought in the Civil War (and expect to receive more). If you are interested in exchanging info please contact me at sad@crl.com

Hi Steve,

I have this present information to give you, but my father Phil and Uncle john have extensive research reaching back into the 17th century into the Gimber family line.

I will send you all of this if you would like.

To begin with, Charles Gimber and Florence Bradley were the parents of 5 children. George, Gertrude, Charles, Florence, and Philip. Shortly after the youngest child Philips birth, his father Charles died from pnemonia after fixing plunbing in a celler (he was a plumber).
After a few years, Charles wife Florence married a man last name Charlton)who was twice her age. I have no information on Mr. Charlton other that he owned property upstate in Sullivan county and many holdings of stables and ice houses in Brooklyn.
My Grandfather Philip was raised in Sullivan county country area along with his brothers and sisters. As you can see, the information I have sent is a base for information referring to the past and the future from that time, please let me know if you are more interested in going into the past or the future from that date (or both).
I have no information on the Bradley or the Charlton family, My knowledge deals with the Gimber family.

Rich,

You have no idea how enormously helpful your information is to me. Do you have brothers named Edward and John (Jack)? To the best of my knowledge they were also sons of Philip Gimber. My grandmother is Charles and Florence Gimber's daughter Florence, by the way. You info on John Charlton was particularly enlightening. According to the 1920 census John N. Charlton and Florence, her five children and her mother Ophelia Bradley, lived at 98 15th Street in Brooklyn, which he owned and paid a mortgage. His profession given is "Custom House Officer" and his age, 69 (same as his mother-in-law). Florence (Bradley)'s age is 34.

In my research on the Dunlap line of my family history I found that they lived in Sullivan County New York for most of the 19th and into the 20th centuries. My grandfather, who married Florence Gimber (the daugher) was born in Eldred NY where his family was ennumerated in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses. Barbara Kuty and I, between the two of us, have located the Gimber family in the 1890 police census, and the 1900, 1910 and the above mentioned 1920 fed censuses. I also have a copy of Charles Gimber's Death Certificate, his and Florence (Bradley)'s marriage certificate and some info on the Bradley line. I have traced the Bradley line to the Civil war and have obtained our ancestor George Bradley's military records. I am still waiting for receipt of his pension records, which were turned over the the VA and did not find their way back to the National Archives.

I would be very happy to share info and mail you copies of my charts and documentation. Please send me e-mail at sad@crl.com.

Rich,

I just realize the source of my confusion. You and I are of the same generation. I just re-read you post and you are the grandson, (not the son) of Philip Gimber. This is the man I knew as "Big Uncle Phil" when I was a child. His wife was my Aunt Eleanor. This makes us 2nd cousins. Pleased to meet you!

Steven.

Hi Steve, I'm really Phil's Grandson. Pleased to meet you also !

Ed and Jack are my Uncles and my father is Phil Jr. I own a house in Massapequa on the Island with my wife Lisa.

The information I have on the Gimber family is mostly from my father Phil. Jack has done a lot of research on the family tree also.
I have a copy of it, but now that I am looking at it, it is not too in depth, mostly just names.

I know you and Barbara have been researching the Gimber family line, would you have any information going back to when the family first started in America, I would like to read about that, maybe even where in Europe they came from.

Phils wife Eleanor (my Granmother) last name was Tory. Is that related to you at all ? I know she was a DAR, and the Tory's go way back.

Growing up I have always heard mention of the Bradleys, Dunlops, Torys and how we are related (Grandma Eleanor was very into family histories).

It would be great if you had information on the Gimber family tree going far back.

Thanks Steve,

Rich

Hi Steve,

You and Barbara have alot of information on the family. I bet my Uncle Jack would be interested in this message board, I know he has alot of information as well.

I asked my Dad Phil about this site, and he is of your generation. He had another son Phil, my brother they like that name (isn't there a Phil Dunlop also?) . Now that I found this message board, we are all interested in finding out more on the Gimber family tree.

I was interested in how far back the line is traced, maybe as far back as when it started in America ?

Just had to clear up the confusion on all the Philip Gimbers. As of now I seem to be the last Philip (For now... :-)

My grandfather was Philip Edward Gimber, wife Eleanor.
Their 5 children were Philip, Edward, Jack, Barbara, and Helen.
Of those, Philip is my father, his full name is Philip John Gimber. With his wife Elizabeth he had 3 children. Richard, Philip and Elizabeth.
So, that makes me Philip the 3rd I Imagine. Maybe I should make a Philip the 4th!
