Two years ago I visited Cave Hill Cemetary in Louisville to try to locate my Grandparents Louis and Hannah Schall. The lady in the office also helped me locate Hannah Schalls parents who were Erhart Frederick Huber and his wife Wilhelmina "Minnie"Huber. They had four children they were all from Germany. Fred was born in l945 died l922. Minnie was Born in l944 and died l9l7. Thier children were Hannah, Christine F., Marie B. and David.
While looking around that day and with the help of a escort I discovered my Aunt Maire died in l965 and was buried with some people named Gimbel. She never married and I found out through the funeral home my grandmother had a sister named Mrs. George Gimbel. Bingo! Does anyone know these people?

Well Hello Mary Lou! No I'm not Ricky Nelson
Hi! My name is Edwin, My family name on Mother's side of the family are Gimbels.
All from Germany. I have been to and lived in Germany several years at a time. I am trying to find out where in Germany the Gimbels come from. I am also, pretty sure the Gimbel's were Jewish. My Great, Great Grandfather was name John Gimbel and is buried in Resthaven Cemetery along with my Great, Great Grandmother Mary M. Gimbel. She spoke mostly all German and refused to learn English. I have been told that she never wanted to come to America. If you would like to keep in touch or exchange notes you may e-mail me or here is my phone No. 303-665-5533. This number is in Colorado near Denver. I also have a home in Arizona.
Most of my family stills lives in Louisville and my Father's side of the family all live in Lexington. Would love to hear from you. Take care.
Sincerely,

Edwin

Hi Edwin:
Thank you for the walk down "Memory Lane". I can always sort out those who have something meaningful to talk about from thoes who write away type "a/s/l". Anyway Rickey Nelson...He was my brothers ages but I still remember thinking wow, wish I was older, but then I was just a little girl and at that time my thoughts didn't go any further.....
Gee, thanks for your responce. I really don't know a thing about the Gimble Family. I simply tripped over the name while home a couple of summers ago in Louisville. I was in Cave Hill Cemetery wanting to return and find my Grandmother Hannah Huber Schalls parents site. While looking around I turned a corner and accidentally found the Gimble graves. I noticed that a headstone with the name of Marie B. Huber was very close to this headstone of Christime F. Gimbel. At that point I took my camera and made several pictures of the headstone and the other Gimbel graves. When I returned home I called back to Louisville to Arch Heady Funeral Home and asked questions regarding my grandmothers funeral. They repeated the sibblings names to me and a Mrs George Gimbel's name was mentioned. At that point it all fell together. Marie Huber known as Aunt Mary, never married. She died in 1965 and Christine died much earlier in time. I have it on record but I don't recall at this moment. Marie (Aunt Mary) must have been close to this sister and herfamily so they buried her in thier plot.
I really do not know a thing more. My mother has told me that they called one of the sisters Aunt Rick....I figure that must have been Christine. I really do not know at this time what the F. stands for. Their father's name was Erhart Frederick Huber and his wife's name was Wilhelmina "Minnie" Huber. I also have a photo of their grave site. They were from Germany also but I have not learned where. Over this site someone has told me that the big Huber family from Indiana were all close family until at some point there was a big family blow up and they all went seperate ways. Just so happened Minnie and Fred came to Louisville. I have photos of all these people and I even have a photo of the three Huber sisters. Their mother died in 1917 and they are all dressed in black and so is the father. I got a feeling that since the mother is missing from the picture it very likely could have been the day of her funeral...Just guessing..... I mentioned turning my car around and accidentally finding the Gimbel site because I was going back to find the Huber site. I think I remember a guard helping me do this. Cave Hill is such a huge place.
Well Edwin, if you know anything else you would like to mention....write me back. I never pass up an opportunity to learn something. Through this process we all learn off one another. My research is very slow at the moment. I am a sophomoren in college and that keeps me very busy. If there is a need to pass on additional information you can e-mail me....I was home this past summer and I was through Resthaven with my girlfirend. Her husband is buried there and when he died years ago I was unable to go home to the funeral...When home other times to visit family and she who is my best friend, we just never went to see the site. Bye for now and thanks... Mary by the way...I an in MN

I live in Ontario,Canada & I am the Great-Great Granddaughter of John Frederick Gimbel. According to his obituary he was born about 1823 in Germany & he & his brother emigrated to Louisville Kentucky. At the time of his death in 1897 his brother was still living in Louisville. He married Elizabeth Werner in Louisville & they came to Oxford County in Ontario where they raised their family of 5 daughters. Their daughter Anna Catherine married Reinhardt Krug & my grandmother Flora was their daughter. I am interested in any information that might be available on family of the Gimbels & where they were born in Germany. Donna
