In the 1880 Smith County, Texas, census, Mary Boswell was listed as a niece in William Gimble’s household. Does anyone have more information about the relationship of Mary Boswell to these people? (William Gimble married Julia F. Jeffress, in Smith County, Texas on 6 Oct 1853.)

I gathered the following information about John Boswell who married Mrs. Ellen S. Ray in Texas 27 Nov 1865. If anyone has anything that they can add to this, I’d be very grateful for the information.

John Boswell b. 1825 VA., m Frances Harrison, daughter of Thornton Harrison and Lucy Terrill, 18 Nov 1844, Madison County, VA.

John and Frances Harrison Boswell moved to Attala, MS where they had a son Madison Boswell, Jun 1847.

Frances Harrison died between Jun 1847 and 1849.

In the 1850 Attala, MS census, John Boswell is married to Elvira, 19, with four-year-old Madison living in the home. John and Elvira were not married within the last year.

In the 1860 census, John and Elvira are in Smith County, TX.

John and Elvira had six children, all born in Texas: Mary b abt 1852, John Jr. b abt 1852-d Apr 1870, Sara Malissa (Lucy) b abt 1856, Frances Jane (Fannie) b abt. 1858, Elizabeth b Oct 1859, Alice b abt 1862-d bef 1882.

Elvira died between 1860 and Nov 1865.

John Boswell m Mrs. Ellen S. Ray, 27 Nov 1865, Smith County, TX.

John and Ellen had one child, Ida Ann Boswell b 26 Sep 1866, Smith County, TX

John Boswell died 12 Sep 1868.

Boswell, Mary Boswell, Frances Boswell, Malissa Boswell, Alice Boswell, Ida Boswell, all minors, son Madison Boswell, Attala Co., Ms, by 1st wf. Frances Boswell who d.
