In searching for information on GOEMBEL, who married into some of my IL famlies, I have found the name frequently spelled (or mis-spelled) as GIMBLE/GIMBEL/(even) GAMBLE. Sebastian and Anna (SCHAFER) GOEMBEL came to the U.S. around 1834 from Germany through New Orleans, LA with 8 children. They worked his way up to IL settling in Tazewell Co., IL. A brother of his, Philip (b 1801) came in 1851 and settled in Livingston Co., IL. A son of Sebastian, Philip (b 1829), moved to Lyon Co., KS and later Waverly, Spokane Co., WA where he died. In Kansas and Washington state this line became GIMBEL/GIMBLE. Philip (GOEMBEL) GIMBLE descendants include Alpha P., b 1855 IL(sp. Ellen); John S. , b Oct 1859 IL (sp:Carrie); Edward E. b May 1863 IL(sp: Maurmy); Anna E., b 1868 IL (sp: M.M. DIXON) and Charles A.., B ca 1871 KS.
