Rosemary,
I am researching the Gimbel name as my great grandmother was Anna Gimbel, b. 1861 in Tavistock Ontario, Canada. Her parents, Frederick and Elizabeth were born in Darmstedt, Hessen, Germany. Anna married my great grandfather Christian Preiss in 1883, and died in Tavistock in 1937. Gimbel is not that common a name in Canada. Any info. would be appreciated.

Hi - I saw your old message on an ancestry.com message board. My mothers maiden name was Gimble and her grandfather came from Germany. I realise yours was a very old message but if you can throw any light on the German connection I'd love to hear from you.
Kind regards
Ann

Hi Ann, I have some family information in my files. I will look through it next week and post back here. I will let you know what I find. It has been a long time since I've researched this so I need to refresh my memory.
Later.
Rosemary
By the way, what was your Mother's first name? You know everyone always played with the Gimble or Gimbel spelling.

Hi Rosemary - thanks for getting back to me. My grandfather was Henry Gimble - we traced him back to a Caspar Gimble who was born in Preussen, Germany but there we are stuck - we believe there may have been a change of spelling somewhere around there so are looking at Gimbels as well as Gimbles. I'd be really very grateful for any help you can offer.
Kind regards
Ann
